Easiest way to mod terrain is to use available changes already done by others. Like terrain expansion (TX), OmegaBolt's temperate/lunar changes, McPwny's cliff/tunnels etc or Rewire mod's assets.

Next easiest is to use BatchTMPConverter. Use original tiles as templates, export to images, modify the images and import it back.

i agree, using xcc tmp editor to edit existing tile images is the easiest way to get started. tmp builder/terral can be used to make new tiles
with specific shapes, if you need.

give it a try and feel free to ask if you need some guidance with something specific

i thimk "TMP creation tutorial" have a problem i can't paste "extra z data"

there has to be an extra image first to paste extra z data, and the extra z data has to be the same size as the extra image. it was easiest to copy the extra
z data of some other tile and paste it as an extra image in the tutorial, then after that paste in the z data as z data. xcc tmp editor was bugged such that you
had to close the tile in the editor and re-open it for it to accept the z data sometimes.

since the tutorial came out, a better tool for creating new tiles and extra image/zdata stuff came out. try using terral for tile creation instead
and xcc for image stuff
