The only i found about cursors is that those are in mouse.sha and no any mention how people edit those. Is there somewhere maybe a tutor hidden?
Extracted a copy into game's root and opened one in SHP Builder. Like dumb monkey, licking on everything, found mousepal palette must be used for proper colours. That's all, next goes enigma...
- why it's .sha and not usual .shp?
- what are those "shadow frames" that start at about middle of frames range and don't give a damn that normal cursors continue further at second part of range? = I got used inf and building shadow frames go after all normal frames, but these simply go right upon normal.
- is there some mysterious settings needed when adding frames?
- same mysterious settings when saving?
Since SHP Builder has no "save as .sha" i used Save(over my copy), but i noticed size gets not bigger yet significantly smaller, and in game cursors get full mess.
Any hints welcomed. QUICK_EDIT
TS and RA2 use mouse.shp, in YR it was changed to mouse.sha, maybe to avoid conflicts with the RA2 version.
The mouse.sha file doesn't have shadow frames, SHP Builder just displays the second half of the SHP as shadows by default. Go to Options and deselect Shadows to make it display all the frames correctly.
Go to Edit > Insert Frame to add new frames to a SHP, you need Ares in order to use any new mouse cursors tho.
The mouse.sha file needs to be saved with Compression type 1, go to Options > Preferences > Saving & Loading and select "Compression 1 only". Ares fixed this tho to look normal with any setting. _________________
Thanks a lot for the very helpful info, @Mig Eater!! This should be pinned somewhere.
Yet i'd wish to make few more questions for clarification, maybe you know the answers too.
- Are there more settings in SHP Builder that may mess smth? Truly didn't expect default settings of compression actually making a problem...
- When saving a SHP there are few formats, like TD TS = do those matter not / is there best one for YR?
- While comparing cursors codes and frames i noticed that frame numbers goes +1 = like cursor code starts 522 but in cursor file it's frame 523 = i'd expect it be -1(521) cause say numeration starts from zero, but why here it goes instead +1?
- Is there some recommendations for File>Import/Export frames settings? Since most cursors animated and have multiple frames, adding those one-by-ne is somewhat tedious, yet Imp/Exp has quite a number of settings, that probably can lead to mess up. QUICK_EDIT
