Newer mod tools
hey guys. i was wondering if there is any newer mod tools to work with .MIX files. on the overall, XCC is good, but i wanted to know if there is anything more efficient.
a while back i found out a lot of people use the World Altering Editor, while i was still using FinalSun for my map mods. both are good but its good to know i have an alternative to try out if my current workflow feels stuck in the tool im using.
XCC Mixer is still the most featured and reliable tool for mix files.
Remember to Compact mixes after any change to mix files.
On Win10 or above, there is a 1 byte hack (by Funkyfr3sh) to change registry access from HKLM to HKCU, to ease out any permission issues. Attaching the changed version, replace with this (or rename and use).
For workflow, I keep empty mix files already created with Mixer in a base folder (like ecache02.mix, expand02.mix etc.) and have mod content in similarly named folders as the mix files. Whenever content changes, I copy the empty mix file to the game folder and open that empty mix file and drag and drop from the mod content folder into it.
Vinifera engine extension for TS is being developed actively. To try it, from latest TSClient, change updater channel to Vinifera Beta, save options, restart client and update. Docs - https://vinifera.readthedocs.io/en/latest/
