I've been playing with the new Internet Explorer, and did a few tests with its new features. PNG alpha works well, although it seemed a bit slow to me. Pages load quite quickly, although this is probably because its so integrated into the OS. tabs work very well, probably even better than in Firefox. I don't like the MSN Search bar, but I think it can be removed. CSS2 isn't completely supported, but it does slightly better than in Firefox. Here you can see two of the little tests I did. |

Hmm, I got so tired of waiting that I didn`t visit Microsoft's site to see the news. I don`t care no more. I'll move to LinSpire so to hell with Windows.

Lynx, the real man's browser. Saying that, I'll never use it, even as a last resort.

For the record, I always use Firefox, except when I have to use IE. At the same time, I like to stay on top of technology. An unreleased Microsoft product is a great way to do so.
Based on my experience with IE7, however, I will probably be using it quite a bit more often.

Linux will destroy Windows so stay safe in front of your pc till it's too late! #Tongue
A cool browser I used was Konqueror. I used it a bit and it's quite interesting, but I'll stick to FF (anyway I don`t have room on my hdd for Linux, for Linspire I'll have, by deleting WinXP ) #evil

Better?!? What do you mean better?

This is what they plan for IE7 Beta 2: Standards and CSS in IE7

Well, tabs are, in my opinion, better handled than in Firefox. I especially like the 'New Tab' button that is always there, as a tab. And they are used by default.

the tests I did showed that IE7's results were closer to what it should have looked like than Firefox's.

Neither browser did it 100%, or even 90% correctly. Nor did Opera, another browser I tried.

There are extensions for Firefox to do the same things.

Did IE6 render it the same as IE7?
Please show me the pages you tested with.

Opera is cool, I really like it, but it's so-cool-interface stresses your pc (well, you have a high end pc so you can`t notice that). I might be wrong though. I think I found the problems that made my pc to work as hell (the finaly burned HDD, I think)

Opera may come with some of the extensions of Firefox as standard, but the idea of Firefox is that plugins can be added for anything, you're not limited to what comes with the original program. By the way, unless you're opening a huge page that shouldn't be allowed on the internet due to the mass bandwidth usage, why should you care about speed? You're on broadband, aren't you?

Havoc, i'm running Opera here at my friend's house on a lame 800mhz pentium, it runs faster than firefox. Tests prove it, btw.

Also, opera comes with so many stuff you don't really need plugins. I do agree though, if you really want exotic stuff, FF might be the way to go. Installing all these plugins takes time, though.

Also, about speed... duhhhhh clazzy, its determined both by connection speed, and browser render speed, obviously i'm talking about the latter! I also really like that when you press 'back'  in opera, it pops back immediately without refreshing. This saves a ton of time. If i want to refresh, i can always do so manually. I can also set the reload time for every tab with 2 mouseclicks.

Well my Firefox has the following:
Gmail Checker.
Weather Forecast.
FTP Program.
Translation Tool.
Wayback Machine.

They're my main plugins, and I don't think you can get most of them on Opera, can you?

I won't deny that Opera isn't fast and secure, but Firefox beats it in many other respects

It's 8. And Clazzy, i would rank those plug ins under exotic ones. For 1,2,4 and 5, a simple bookmark to a site does wonders. Also, Opera can be configured so, that entering "g Tiberian Sun" will result into a direct google search on TS. Also, I can integrate websites like your translator into a Web Panel, which i can expand by clicking on a 10px vertical bar on the left side of my screen.

FTP support is nothing special. Opera also supports mail, newsgroups, IRC, and RSS natively.

BTW, I'm not sure if there is an opera version for linux.

If it would IM's too, besides IRC. I'm sure there is a Linux version on the net. But anyway, what I really hate at Opera: ADWARE! The ads anoy me at least.

Browser FTP support is a stupid idea if you ask me. FF and IE have crappy FTP browsers (FF's crappier).

I'm using 18 extensions in Firefox, currently. Most likely over half of them provide a feature that Opera 8.0x doesn't. If you're interested in the list, I would be happy to post it.

Havoc, you could buy Opera to remove the ads.

It's nice not having to have a Gmail page open all of the time;.
Firefox has the searchbar.

Perhaps we should just agree to disagree.

Yes, Opera, like Firefox, is available for Linux.

Well of course I can buy it, but I prefer to use [warez] than to waste my money on a browser. WTF? Most of the browsers available on the internet are completely free. And most of the comercial ones are unpopular, useless, dumb, etc.

Edited by Kravvitz.
Sorry, I don`t really like the word "warez" cuz I'm forced to use them.

We discourage the use of warez here. Mad

I agree that there is no point in paying for a web browser. I was only pointing out that you don't have to see the ads.

I know. I know. (for both lines I mean)
I'd do anything to not use warez, but I gave an example. I didn`t give a link or anything ilegal. Now finding warez is easy, but I'll shut up. Also nobody try to PM me to ask me how cuz I'll just delete the message.

*edit*
Now back on topic: I'll give Opera a try these days to see how it works. At the first view it looks promissing.

*edit2*
Well, I'll agree with DVD on one thing. Opera = Faster. It loaded PPM's homepage faster than FF.
Looks better without that ad. Way better. Well something is missing: no more romanian languege pack (I don't give a [censored], but here in Romania, the only english ppl do know is made out of english bad words spelt in latin)

Yes... Warez bad... *Looks shiftily back and forth*

Seriously though, don't use 'em. And whatever you do, don't look around in my first post for a link to something pertaining to the topic, it isn't there! *Again looking shiftily around*

Nice to see you around Kravvitz!

Now.
Opera is faster.
Firefox is more flexible
Internet Explorer is omnipresent.

So you see, they each have their own advantages.
Opera has speed, Firefox has personality, and Internet Explorer has numbers on its side.

Opera doesnt like my computer... and IE lags my pc like a dad with a twelve-year-old kid stuck to his leg... FF was the default browser when I got this biscut.. and it only likes firefox... it hates everythin else... and I hate that.. cuz FF has this REALLY bad habit of saying that TumSun doesnt exist XD

Someone finally said it. I totaly agree with TShyper. What we need is hybrid between IE, FF and Opera. That would be a perfect browser.

What I need is an extension for Firefox that lets me switch to Opera in the right-click menu, and vice-versa for Opera's right-click menu. There's one for IE, so why not one for Opera? Neutral

IE 6.0 is the best, and I have to say, IE 7.0 beta sucks, its the worst browser ever, same with FF. They wont do nuffin to help, Ive tried em both and they wont load a page fully.
