Other Modding Tools..
Since our latest subjects have been modding tools and modding tools... I must admit that I've missed some cool releases during the latest months, some tools that will make a hell of a difference for all Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 modders out there. So, here's a small listing:
- Downsizer: This tool was being developped by meselfs for sometimes already and it reduces TGA files, saving them as SHPs. However, this downsizer resizes the image in top notch quality (unlike OS SHP Builder) and doesn't compromise your SHP by choosing wrong colours (like XCC Mixer does).
- Unofficial XCC TMP Editor 1.05: MetalMario has modified Olaf Van Der Spek's XCC TMP Editor to add some very usefull tools that was being missed by many TS and RA2 terrain editors, so it's a must download. According to the author, here's the changelog:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Changes (Oct. 6, 2005):
-Added radar colour changing; added AutoColour tool which exacts the 'official' behaviour (with one obscure exception =P). It can be found in the Properties dialog.
-Added Resize tool to change the width and height, in tiles, of a loaded template.
-Newly inserted tiles now contain the contents of the first tile rather than garbage.
-Added Copy/Paste Z Data/Extra Z Data
-XCC TMP Editor originally forced the 'Has Z Data' bit to true upon saving (which broke randomly varied tilesets such as LAT sets). It now remembers the loaded value which can also be changed.
-Uses XP visual styles. Added new (albeit a little too perky =P) icon.
-Other small fixes"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Editing the radar colour and the Z data are certainly very nice features, specially the radar colour which has been part of many doubts posted in our editing forums.
- Colour Program: PaD has posted a program to shows you the colour converted to many formats. You can see the normal values, C&C Palette values, HTML, Delphi, C, Visual Basic, HSB, etc... But Delphi is inverted. Anyway, you can check a screenshot and more info about it HERE.
- 3Ds2Vxl:: ViPr released a new version of this program by the end of the last month. Here's the changes, according to him:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"This version just has the ability to disable smoothing so all the triangles will look completely flat. I added this because 3ds models from Anim8or do not have proper smoothing groups so everything is too smoothed resulting in warpy looking normals. Since the voxels are small you wont notice the segmentation on them so much if you turn off the smoothing and it looks better than warpy normals."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With all these reinforcements, I wish you a happy modding. Have fun! Last edited by Banshee on Sun Nov 20, 2005 4:11 pm; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT
Um...Banshee, it should be Tiberian Sun AND Red Alert 2, not amd. And also, you misspelled developed in the Downsizer topic. One last one, usefull should be useful in the Unofficial TMP Editor part. But you wrote this at 10 o'clock at night, so that should explain why. But very cool, all of these programs! _________________
