Patton Tank Series

Historical Background: The Patton series of tanks originated from one of the late war heavy tank models of WWII, the M-26. The M-26 Pershing was a heavily armed and armored tank capable of taking on a Tiger on equal terms with its powerful 90mm cannon. In a single action during the advance into Germany, the Pershing Tank destroyed a Tiger and 2 Panzer 4 tanks in a single action.

After the war however it was reclassified and was called a Medium Tank. Improvements in the engine and gun of the tank results in the first of the Patton series, the M-46. Both the M-26 Pershing and M-46 saw extensive service in Korea, where it helped deal a crushing blow to the North Korean armored forces, who were used to facing off against M-24 Chaffees and M4 Shermans.

The M-47 Patton was a stop gap design for the US Army, and over 8500 were produced during the time of the Korean War. It never saw service in Korea though, and did not see any major service in the US. It was heavily exported to NATO countries, who often took it upon themselves to improve it. The Israeils notably had designed a 90mm APFSDS round for the M-36(63?) cannon.

The M-48 Patton was the next step in the series, and saw countless variants throughout its servive life. Little varies between this tank and the previous M-47 and M-46 in its early forms, It arrived too late for the Korean War, but later versions of it saw service in the 60's and 70's in the Vietnam conflict. It also saw service in the conflicts in the Middle East.

The M60 takes it familiar design and characteristics straight from the M48A3. It was essentially a M48A3 equipped with the M68 Rifled gun. Entering service in 1960, it was one of the main battle tanks of NATO forces throughout the remainder of the Cold War. Multiple improvements and changes resulted in variants like the M60A1, A2, and A3 The M60 has seen extensive service in the Israeli army, which put ERA on its them.

M1A1 is a fast thing. 40mph, and it is the best tank in the world. (considering quantity and quality)

Update on M48: Chassis completed. Moving on to turret tommorow. Me must sleep now.

Texture right now is unfinished, but I hope to get somewhere with that soon.

Well, it did not come out perfect, but on A Land Divided with the Dusk settings, boy, did it come out nice with the new skin improvements.

The colors stick to the Soviet theme, as to allow for easy color conversion later on.
