(WIP) Invader Defense: Advanced Shredder
As you may already know, the Shredder class defense system that the Aliens employ is quite a threat to our ground forces- infantry especially.
However, another defense has been appearing at Alien bases and outposts now- A more powerful device we have now coined the "Heavy" or "Advanced" shredder. Another simple, temporary, easy to build defense- this is not what our forces need.
The Advanced Shredder discards many of the characteristics of the first shredder, and adds some qualities of the Proton Firewall- our engineers have pointed out that a large energy absorbing panel, exposed crystal device, and more cubic base seem to the most striking qualities that were borrowed.
This device has been encountered in two versions, as stated above- and we have begun to use "Heavy" and "Advanced" to refer to the type of Shredder.
--Heavy Shredders utilize the "roof" of the device as a barrier- it fires a single powerful burst and then hides the crystal under it.
--Advanced Shredders do not utilize this function, and stay open almost always. They fire the same type of super rapid fire laser as the original Shredder, but, we estimate the power output to be atleast twice that of the original.
Both devices appear to be dependent on an external power source- unlike the original, which powered itself enough to function if a power source was weakened or lost.
As for armor, we cannot truly understand what makes this device so durable. Armor plating at the most amounts to 60mm. We have concluded that a new class of composite armor is being used on them.
Use caution when approaching these devices, commander- These defenses can shred HMVEEs and IFVs like its predecessor could infantry.
