I was thinking of rehauling the TS snow theatre, however FinalSun refuses to override the default snow files for some reason, making quick testing very annoying as I'd have to fire up TS and start a skirmish every time. Would it be feasible to create a tool that for example can display a bunch of terrain images slapped together, so you get a good impression of how the end result will look?

It wouldn't be a bad idea, although do not expect it from me, since I can barely work on my own tools.

Anyway, the closest tool for that is being done by CnCVK.. the OS TMP Builder, which he posted a preview a while ago in a news topic from IcySon55 (about his icons).

A small clarification, TMP Builder is not open source, I have no control over that fact.

What I can try to do is get a "Terrain tester menu" added to the program that allows you to test your tiles as if it was FinalSun/Alert.

No guarantees, we'll see how it goes.

the best way to view new tiles in the snow theatre is to, back up your TibSun.mix, open 1 copy and extract ISOSnow.mix, add the files to the ISOSnow.mix then re-add it to the TibSun.mix, thats what i did when i was testing your old Recoil Snow tiles.

The bad thing in a non-open source community tool is that if the person who has the source of the program leaves the community, the program will never be updated anymore.

Don't forget the fact that others may contribute. The very fact that people patched the code (even if just minor modifications) is a good sign. In short, there's no reason NOT to open-source it. Not only does it benefit the community but it can lessen the workload as people take interest and improve the functionality. Unless you're trying to make a profit (which I sincerely hope you're not, I always see modding as a hobby, not a means of making money) then you should just simply release the source. You don't have to go all the way and make an SVN or CVS repository, just allow people access to be helpful and supportive rather than have several splinter projects all aiming towards similar or the same goals.
