GDI Forward Defensive Base B-581
New Dallas, Texas (15 km southwest of old Houston)

"I'm not normally one to say this ma'am," said a short stocky soldier by the name of Nicholas "Bulldog" Pena, "but we're taking heavy fire as it is. If we continue on like this, we will lose much more than just this base." They were standing on a balcony of the communications center. Below them several engineers were working feverishly to get the Ion Cannon uplink ready. Several large fireballs exploded behind them as Nod Artillery continued to bombard the massive complex, and a heliport went up in a volley of flames, smoke and debris. A clanking noise issued from 150 meters south as the large steel and concrete doors on the War Factory opened and a Mammoth MK II slowly lumbered its way into the dusty outside. Overhead, Surface to Air Missiles zoomed past on their way to strike inbound Harpy attack helicopters.

"Don't worry, Bulldog. I have been in tighter situations than this. We will come out victorious. I promise." said the tall, lean structure of Commander Alexandra "Phoenix" Spoor. She had sharp, piercing blue eyes and long brunette hair. That, coupled with her dark complexion, gave the striking impression of someone who was born to lead. "I have never lost, and I dont plan on losing today." Several more explosions issued from ground level as the artillery bombardment rained down on the base. "You have known me since before I've joined, Nick. You know I would rather die than accept defeat." She said looking out to the horizon into the bloodred sunset.

"Ma'am, I'm not questioning your abilities." he said, looking over at her. He noticed her hair whipping around her face, rememering that she was, after all, not only his commander, but also one of his dearest friends. "Lexie, please. Just listen to me. I know it's hard to accept it, but we are outnumbered. We still have control of the ports. We can still load up in sea transports and escape! If we stay, we will ALL DIE! It's not worth your life for this base. We can fall back to Cancun and mount a full scale naval counterassault." An explosion rocked the Communications Tower as an artillery shell hit near the base. A fireball of debris and smoke plumed high into the air. A groan of warping metal and the snap of support wires came from below the two as the large white dish of the Ion Cannon control tower began to plummet down towards the ground. When it struck, it hit with enough force to cause nearby vehicles to be rocked as if an earthquake had hit. To the north, the V shaped outline of Spetre Bombers could be seen closing in. The SAM sites' targeting computers took their fire off the fighters and focused on the bombers. To the south, the command center was located near the Tiberium Refinery. Artillery had already damaged production at the refinery, but the forces were needed for defending the base, and all non-essential personnel were put into battle defending the base. From their vantage point high above the ground on the balcony of the Communications Center, Bulldog and Phoenix could see the raging firefight a mile north of the base. Occasionally, a large fireball would flare up as a Tick Tank or a Titan were destroyed. Although she couldn't hear anything over the explosions around her, she imagined that it must be a living hell up there. She watched as the Mammoth MK II slowly entered the battle, firing it's railguns at larger targets.

Several of the inbound bombers had been downed by the SAM sites and HMRLS's but there were still some inbound. The Mammoth MK II was not far from the path of those bombers. Phoenix watched as two of them peeled off to strike the massive mech. She saw four HMRLS's race from the gates of the base towards the MK II in an attempt to save it, but it was too late. The bombers released their laser guided missiles on the mech. One struck just below the side-mounted railguns, another struck the front end where the drivers sat, and the last two struck the left side legs of the monolithic MK II. Phoenix watched as their largest and proudest unit fell gracefully sideways to the ground. It hit with enough force to tremble the ground below the Communications Tower. The true show of power of the Global Defense Initiative had been taken down. Bulldog let out a light sigh of frustration. "No..." He whispered.

Hair still whipping around her face, Pheonix let out a single tear. "Begin Evacuation Procedures C-109. Let's get out of here while we can." She said to Bulldog, not looking at him. Three missiles from one of the bombers struck the Command Center, bringing the structure to the ground in a fireball of furious destruction. Phoenix looked away, tears now flooding from her eyes.

"Lexie..." Whispered Bulldog, softly touching her shoulder.

"That's an order, Colonel!" She said sharply turning to him, her blue eyes piercing through him like daggers. She turned around and walked inside out of view, leaving Bulldog on the balcony alone to reflect on what he had just done.

"GO, GO, GO!" Bulldog and Phoenix joined Bethanie "Fireball" Abbot and jumped into a small ground transport. Most of the base had evacuated, and the last transport was getting ready to leave. They were dodging explosions as Nod artillery continued to rain down on the base. They arrived at the landing pads near the ports. The last dropship was there, powered up waiting for them to load up. Fireball rolled the light transport up into dropships pod. They got out and began to climb the ladder as the pod door closed and they began to take off. As they rose into the darkening sky, an explosion beneath them rocked the ship, and they could hear shrapnel strike the bottom of the aircraft.

"I left all defenses on Autofire Cycle 4," said Bulldog, "That should give us enough time to get out of range before they capture the SAM sites." He had contacted the Philadelphia before leaving the communications center. He had sent a Data-burst transmission of all research data that had been archived and then wiped all drives clean. The base was left largely intact because a counterforce was being mounted in Cancun, Mexico. They planned on taking back the base. An Orca Fighter group from B-508, a base 600 km to the east, had provided air support for the dropships. Two were destroyed while landing to pick up the war mechs as the Nod forces moved ever closer to the base, and another was destroyed during the departure. The huge, triple cannoned Juggernauts were set on Autofire Cycle 2, bombarding a half a mile perimeter around the base, making it impossible for unprotected units to pass through. The Surface to Air missile sites were set to fire on any Nod air units over the base. The B-508 Orca wing patrolled the base while the transports were escorted south away from the fire-zone. Only 3 of the 12 dropships were lost in the evac. Bulldog and Phoenix watched out of the rear viewport though binoculars as the Nod flag was raised above the ports. Much of the massive complex lay in fiery ruins, but still a large percentage of it was still intact. Phoenix turned and went out of the room, leaving Bulldog and Fireball in the room alone.

"I still feel like I've hurt her pretty bad." said Bulldog. He sat down and watched as the smoke from the attack disappeared over the horizon. The Orca Air support group peeled off and headed back to their base after the transports were safely out of reach of all Nod forces in the region. "She's never known defeat. She must be devastated..." said Fireball, looking out the window at the Orca Fighters head back to the Northeast, wishing she had been able to get her group in the air. Fireball's entire wing was either damaged beyond immediate repair or completely destroyed during a surprise bombing shortly before the main assault began. Although two managed to get in the air and valiantly took down more than two dozen bombers, they couldn't outrun the high-speed Nod Interceptors that followed. They fought bravely, but the large and bulky Orca fighters just didn't have the maneuverability that the light and nimble Interceptors had. They didn't stand a chance. They were both shot down within two minutes of the Interceptors' arrival.

Bulldog got up, walked out and Fireball followed him. They walked along the catwalk above the pod, looking down at the trucks, tanks, and cases of vital papers and materials that were loaded up in the last minute haste to save as much as possible. They came to the other side and entered the bridge. Although the dropship itself was a very large craft, almost 100 meters long, the bridge was still cramped. It was meant to transport heavy units, not a people. The bridge, catwalk, and rear quarters were the only pressurized areas. The pods were unpressurized and a person would either freeze to death or die of asphyxiation in the frigid, thin air. Bulldog and Fireball found Phoenix on the radio with the base commander of Cancun. They were discussing something called "Druna Skass". Bulldog and Fireball looked at each other and swapped inquisitive looks. They had never heard of Druna Skass, so it must be something new. They sat down and began talking with some of the officers. The transports continued onward over the vast gulf of mexico as darkness began to fall.

Tyrados Nod Naval Supremacy Station, On board the B.F.S. Sarajevo

Caribbean Islands

Admiral Steven Wolfe stood on the top deck of his command ship, the B.F.S. Sarajevo. It was Nod's largest ship, aside from the new experimental that was still sitting in the Port of Alexandria in Egypt. The experimental was top secret, and funded directly by Kane himself. The experimental ship, the Exige, was actually meant to be a ground based siege weapon. However, due to GDI's ever persistent ventures to rid the world of tiberium, they've opened up sea routes with with impregnable sonic emitters deep under the surface of the ocean. Not only are the emitters nearly indestructible, they're very hard to locate with sonar and sensors due to their sonic interference. This brought up the need for a more powerful navy on the Brotherhood's part. GDI ruled the seas, but not for long. Once the Exige was completed, their port cities would tremble in fear at the sight of the massive ship. Smaller port cities could be dealt with using the B.F.S. Sarajevo and it's fleet, but the larger ones, such as New Dallas or New Phoenix required joint ground and sea efforts. This meant heavy losses on the seas because the sea ships could not do much damage because GDI had the firestorm defense.

New Dallas proved to be easier to take because their firestorm had been down for maintenence and a freak ion storm to the north had hidden the forces from GDI sensors. The Sarajevo and it's fleet had arrived the day after the Siege of New Dallas expecting heavy resistance but was met by nothing but open port gates and the glorious red flag of Nod flying over the ports. The Sarajevo and her fleet went back to it's home port deep in the Caribbean to the Tyrados Naval Supremacy station. Now, all that was needed was the GDI Cancun Naval Air Station (B-384) and the New Orleans Naval Construction Facility (B-501) and Nod would rule Gulf of Mexico. With this as a staging point, Nod would have more access to the rich tropical resources to build more powerful ships, and eventually control the vast Atlantic Ocean. With the Atlantic under Nod control, GDI-controlled Europe would be cut from it's North American counterpart.

"Admiral, We are now fully armed and fueled." Said Wolfe's first lieutenant.

"Good. Get the fleet going. We depart at sunset. We will move at a slow pace. The weather forecasts a thick fog for tomorrow which will cover us. I want to assault B-501 tomorrow night." Said the wise Admiral....

B.F.S. Sarajevo

Through the fog, Admiral Wolfe could dimly see the lights of the New Orleans GDI Naval Construction Facility. He leaned back in his command chair and waited for the Chameleon Spy to sabotage the base's power. The Chameleon was sent in on a One man submarine, called the Switchblade. It was merely an underwater Sea-doo, with stabilizers. Once that was done, their radar and Firestorm defense would be offline, and the Sarajevo and her fleet could power up and begin to bombard the base. Because they had Tyrados, Nod did not need this position, so a ground strike was not needed to bring in commanders and engineers to capture the base. This was simply a Slash and Burn type tactic. Once the base was destroyed, the Sarajevo would launch her Catalyst missile, infecting the base with heavy Tiberium infestation, making it almost impossible to recover the facility.

"Incoming transmission, sir. It's the Chameleon." whispered the Communications officer.

"Line 2, Secure. Said Wolfe. He put on a headset to hear it.

"It is done, sir. My Switchblade has not been noticed. They wont know what hit them. Give me five minutes and I'll be back on board. Chameleon out." The radio clicked off.

Admiral Wolfe switched the view screens to Fog Radar. Now he could see the base clearly as if the Fog was gone. He watched as a brilliant blue explosion fireballed into the sky, and another one less than a second after the first, this time orange. The power facilities were down, and the chameleon had also gone extra and taken out the Firestorm Generator. Wolfe smiled and said to his Comm. Officer, "Set Condition one throughout the fleet. Power up and begin to execute Operation Lux Aeterna. It's time to show our true power.". His maniacal grin was only beat by the piercing blue eyes looking out stabbing a thousand holes in the image of the Naval Yard on the screens.

The B.C.S. Alexandria, another capitol ship, was the first to come to life, it's massive cannons waking from their slumber, and the ships external lights flickering on. The cannons rotated slowly into position, and then with blinding flashes and deafening booms, they unleashed their volleys of hell upon the unsuspecting base. Explosions rocked the base as steel girders warped and snapped and cranes came crashing down. The B.M.B.S Zeus's external lights flickered on next, and it's many missile turrets whipped to face the base. More ships began to came to life at this, and the Zeus, a Missile Barrage Ship, unleashed a wave of missiles upon B-501. If one listened closely, they could hear the squeal of the missiles over the massive explosions of the Capitol ships' main cannons. After a couple of minutes, sensor support ships warned of aircraft lifting off from the base.

"Tell one of the carriers to release their fighters. Those Orca's have scanners on them, and they'll take on my capitol ships through the fog." Said Admiral Wolfe in a cool, level-headed voice.

"Can't our Anti-Aircraft ships take them out?" asked the naive comm officer.

"Do not question my orders, Lieutenant!" barked Wolfe in a harsh tone. The Lieutenant did as he was told. The B.A.S. Cairo's deck became active as pilots loaded up into their Talon Interceptors. The took off en masse in one wave, and prepared to engage the Orca's. Although outnumbered 3 to
2, the Talons were much more maneuverable and could take on two Orca fighters and come out victorious. The B.A.S. Desert Fox's deck also lit up although the Talons did not take off. The Desert Fox was on standby incase the Atlanta division of Orca fighters had been called in for support.

By sunrise, the GDI Naval Construction Base was in flaming ruins. There had not been enough time to call the GDI Atlanta Air Base for support. Only six Talon Interceptors were lost but all GDI Orca Fighters were downed. However, before being taken out of the skies by an AA battery, one of the Orca Fighters managed to get close enough in to let a couple of missiles loose on the Alexandria. It hit and disabled two of it's three main cannon turrets. The Alexandria took two support ships and began to limp back home to Tyrados, as the rest of the 3rd fleet mopped up the base. They would catch up with the Alexandria later in the afternoon.

Admiral Wolfe was pleased with the results, and ordered his ships to cease fire. They did, and he sat down in his command chair. He pulled up the Holo-Screen and launched the Catalyst missile. Bay number three on the Sarajevo opened, and deep in the belly of the ship, the missile roared to life. As it exited the ship, the concussion from the rocket engines shook the ship. The deafening roar penetrated through the heavy armour plating into the bridge. It was a satisfying sound to Admiral Wolfe. He watched on his view screens as the missile approached it's target. It detonated 100 meters above the ground. The shock wave was felt as far out as the fleet, but the massive explosion over the base could not be rivaled. It let out a rain of concentrated Tiberium liquid and catalyst seeds. By nighftall there would be accelerated Tiberium growth and by the next morning the base would be too toxic for anyone to enter. The B.F.S. Sarajevo and her fleet turned around and began to head home, leaving the burning base behind them. This victory was the deciding factor in the fate of the Gulf of Mexico Theatre of War.

Translating Inbound Transmission....
========================

"Operations are going as planned. The Secretariat has been monitoring the situation on the planet. The sentient beings are in an escalated state of world war. Terraforming has been slowed due to intervention by the sentient beings."

"Has the Council come to a decision about this particular planet?"

"Yes, they have concluded that there is no real threat. Observations of the planet show that one side seems to be leading to victory. Intercepted transmissions show plans for a total global-scale takeover. The ones labeled the 'Brotherhood of Nod' have control of the entirety of largest ocean. The 'Brotherhood of Nod' is gaining control of the second ocean, which will cut the opposing faction in two."

"What are my orders?"

"You are to replace the Secretariat and continue observing the situation of the sentient beings. Eventually one faction will become victorious through bloodshed. The population will dwindle to a more manaeable size to take on. You will show them there are no victors in that petty war of theirs, only losses. Once the population is annihilated, we will proceed with colonization as planned. The Council is not happy with the delay, and wishes you a quick colonization."

"I will fill out my orders as asked. That is all."

"Best of luck, Foreman."

To be continued...

Yeah i know part five is a filler, but it falls in later in the story.
