Is there research or proposed research about why we can't add new loading screens for a new side and actually have them work?

I think I might have just figured a workaround Venom, but the chances aren't good though. I'll get back to you tomorrow as I can't test it tonight...

OK here goes, the new sides try to use the loading screens from the next resolution up so that's why if you play at 640x480 or 640x400 the load screens will looks wierd but if you play at 800x600 there's none at all, as there are no loading screens at higher resolution than that.

Thus it depends on which resolution you play on unfortunately, the workaround will only work (as I found out this morning) by replacing the loading screens from the next resolution up. However, if you play at 800x600 then unfortunately you're screwed as you can't add new loading screens for higher resolutions (I tried using the same naming convention as the existing ones, but the game didn't appear to recognise them).

So to clear up, you can only 'add' new loading screens if you're playing on a resolution lower than 800x600 and you would do so by replacing the loading screens from the next resolution up.

hmm, something i noticed it that my new sides take the gdi loading screen when playing on 640 x 480, and no loading screen at all when at 1024 x 768. I didn't test 800 x 600 though.. i'll try it.

yeah, I don't know whether there is any specific selection in terms of the loading screens they use (in the same way as new sides take just about eveything Nod in game interface/cabal etc) or whether its random, I think however that it does alternate between them if you have more than one side so one new side will use GDI loading screens (if there are any available) and the next will use nod or vice versa

the lowest is 640x400, resolution is what display mode the game is using. The numbers represent how many pixels are squeezed onto the screen to make up the display so obviously the higher the resolution the sharper (and smaller in some cases) the graphic quality
