As the thread title says. Should TFADW adopt its own custom .exe which doesn't intefere with usual TS/FS?

This would also then allow such things as custom colours in skirmish/multiplayer, restriction of forbidden settings (like unit count), and possibly modes of playing (if using a launcher like TSD - it would then also work for users of no-cd), and maybe some other features.

This might however make it harder for people to make their own custom maps however (they'd have to rename all the files to original TS recognised filenames for FinalSun), and TFD users would have to apply a special patch, adding an extra step to playing the mod. Maybe there are some other cons that people would like to note also.

Well, because some people *a certain Judeau and friends* think to lack an .exe is distasteful. It also means you need to make a copy of your sun folder. And the edits are to improve the experience, I would suppose. #Tongue

And ye, feel free to help... ;p

If my hands grow out from butt and I'll screw up my TS after removing TF:ADW, I'll just reinstall TS.

Anyway, custom .exe will not make things better or worse for me. I remain neutral in this question.

Oh, that's possible in many ways....w33d being one of them...

On topic, I must say I'm in quite a conflict about this. I would say to use its own exe, but then again, I didn't realize there were so many drawbacks...

Go with a custom exe. It means users don't need to worry about removing the mod to play other mods or vanilla TS.

Perhaps maybe separate downloads for a exe and for the mod files? The best of both worlds #Tongue

Separate downloads might work, but if the new exe has different colours, for instance, than it means those using the TS exe might miss out.

There is another con, I can't spread the mod to other sites like cncfiles, because they don't accept hacked executables. Sometimes it seems that custom exe's also cause "Unable to initialize" errors.

Actually I was wondering about that... I haven't tried the XCC launcher/creator yet.

There was something about the mod launcher putting the inis in a mix file, and last time I checked you can't do that.

If you get TFADW into the launcher, I'd fully support it and most likely play TFADW more. I find it distasteful to try and uninstall any TS mod due to that, since there's no handy TS Directory clean-up tool like there is for RA2/YR.

Right #Tongue but it is a popular repository. Using that as a benchmark, I'd imagine some other sites would also have an anti-hacked executable stance...
