More features from Red Alert 3!
Subject description: Fast, fluid and fun? Surprisingly, not that fast!
Hagren, loyal visitor of CNCNZ.com has shared from interesting details of the translation of the PC Guru article on RA3:
Quote:
* Every unit has secondary functions. The allied tank for instance is able to concentrate radar beams to be used as a scouting unit
* Although not visible on the screens, there's going to be massive damaging in RA3, with weapons carving colossal craters into the ground.
* Most structures are able to be bulit on water for extra cost.
* Ships can only "land"/leave shore on sand, so its crucial to defend these areas.
* The article writer claims that the impressive graphics don't shine through the screens. In his opinion, graphics are much better compared to CnC3, he's especially flabbergasted by the animations.
* The Russians have a submarine called "Akula" which isn't simply deadly against ships, but is able to train divers as well.
* The Bullfrog transport ship doesn't have to set shore, its able to "shoot" out the units it's carrying.
* The Japanese Seawing bomber is able to transform into a submarine simply by falling into the water.
* Sea battles will be crucial in this game.
* The Japanese will have a water based tank called "Tsunami" which is both heavily armoured and powerful, and slower on land than in water.
* The campaign can be co-operatively played with a friend from start to finish. If there's no one to play it with, you can choose between an array of AI allies to fight the war.
* Starcraft 2's lead designer worked on RA3 before he went to Blizzard.
* Gameplay will be much slower, an aspect, along with the beta, that the team concluded from Tiberium Wars. The writer confirms this slowdown.
* Enemy soldiers freeze upon Allied dogs barking.
* The Mobile V4 is able to swim as well, but its main draw points is the precise and area effective attack.
* The Russians' submarine, the Stingray Nasad, sports Tesla-launchers, and is a rather small, but fast unit
* The writer praises the smooth animations, explosion effects and water in general again and again, its crazy!
* Live action FMVs are back mixed with CGI and outdoor scenes.
* No Yuri
* Atmosphere is top notch.
It looks like the devs are giving a lot of attention for naval battles this time. What do you think of it? Share your opinions with us in this topic (guest posting alllowed). QUICK_EDIT

Before C&C3, I preferred the Tiberian universe, but judging by these facts alone, I'm already quite sure I'll like RA3 much more than C&C3. QUICK_EDIT

Lol wut? WW's work or not, Yuri sucked balls. He was a failed copy of Wolf Messing. _________________
Chris - Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 has just been announced and I have already seen numerous fans clamouring for you to do the soundtrack, can you comment on this?
Frank - The flood gates opened up on my fan mail right after that announcement.
Regarding RA3, I’ve heard about it just as you have, so I’ve not been contacted. Ultimately EA would have to ask Petroglyph to use me on it, and then it would be up to Petroglyph to allow it. If those things align, you better believe I would score that game, no question!

IdiotGlyph better not hold him hostage like they did with UaW...
Carno, you know very well what happened - EA even asked Frank to do the C&C3 music, but he turned it down to work on UAW. _________________ The Fall of Hammerfest - Epic Tiberian chain story

Sounds like the game will have more micromanagement than previous RAs ( * Every unit has secondary functions. The allied tank for instance is able to concentrate radar beams to be used as a scouting unit ) which is always a good thing. Maybe like a mix of RA/TW/Generals? This would be supported by another fact: * Starcraft 2's lead designer worked on RA3 before he went to Blizzard. Anyways, the features sound quite nice, they seem to be trying some more ambitious concepts since TW? And they really are pumping out the C&Cs lately... Nice thing. QUICK_EDIT

I fail to see how this is a positive since starcraft 2 wasnt announced that long ago and has yet to be released, for all EA know it could turn out to be rubbish meaning their person on RA3 was a bad choice. or starcraft 2 turns out to be fantastic and losing their person on RA3 to Blizzard was the worst thing they could of done. They must be pretty desperate for ideas to stick this in there. QUICK_EDIT

I really hope Petroglyph releases Frank from his cage so he can do the RA3 music... They aren't working on a major game atm, and the precious one was a partial fail (I excuse myself if you disagree, but it's somehow the truth...) QUICK_EDIT
Considering Japan is involved, it's not a great surprise that there's a big focus on naval warfare. I mean, Japan IS a series of islands, and always has to have some naval warfare regardless what her enemies are.
Besides, look at WW2, practically all the action that involved Japan was navies hammering at eachother and/or amphibious assaults on little islands. QUICK_EDIT

Good thing that Naval Warfare is being focused on. RA2's naval combat was complete dirt. _________________ YR modder/artist, DOOM mapper, aka evanb90

But having the ability to build your CY/PP/Whatever seems strange...
Guy: Mwahaha my bas3 is indestruct1b1e! Your tanks can't reach it and my aa is too p0werful!
Guy 2: *Kills all the waterbound structures with subs/ships and wins the game* lol.
But I must say it's a realllly interesting idea. Sovs sucked at Naval Combat, uh huh. _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

Errrm, how can Yuri be back if he was transported back to the Cretaceous?
EDIT: Fixed

Japan doesnt fit
Korea was in RA2, why not Japan in RA3?
I think RA3 sounds interesting, I hope is doesn't get boring as fast as TW... _________________ Last edited by Tore on Sat Feb 16, 2008 7:47 pm; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT
Thanks to these snippets, I'm looking more forward to RA3 than I initially did, graphics still don't look that good though even though the reassuring words, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see it in motion. It seems to be way more innovative and fun than Retardium Wars at least.
Allthough I gotta say I would have preferred a little more serious approach (original C&C storyline) and not the cartoony kinda style... _________________

Hmm...sovs stank totally at RA, the Missile Subs didn't make much of any differences...in just RA, sovs only owned subs. While Allies had Cruisers Destroyers Gunboats lolftw. In RA2/YR, their surface combatant was the most powerful, dangerous and feared...only by aircraft. A Dest/Dolphin can take pot-shots at it.
I wouldn't wanna be crushed under your mighty navy Sir Mods _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

"No unit spam" I'm sure somebody will find and exploit something.
Yet I think RA3 will be my next fav game next to world in conflict. ( Im sure ill like ra3 better )
The only way to stop unit spam in a CNC game would be to have an the game give you a strong electronic bitch-slap (electric shock) when you spam units.
And all that would do is make the spammers say "Ow, that hurt", in a monotonous, void of emotion voice, and click the tank icon 30 more times. QUICK_EDIT
or uber rock paper-scissors-shoot, with the addition of about 100 objects...I would like to see that diagramed out. _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT
