I just had a great idea/question spawn into my head:

Is it possible to mod Redalert1 for the Playstation?

The reason im asking is becaus I dont own a Playstation or "RA1 for PS1" but im just wondering if its possible to do it?

Does Redalert1 for PS1 have some sort of a Rules.ini like the PC version or is it hardcoded into the data files?

Mabe it would be possible to first rip one of the Redalert1 PS1-CD's and then modify it and then make it a ISO and emulate it on a Playstation1 Emulator or burn it and put in one of those Playstation1's that reads burned CD's

Offtopic: For those who want to know is that the Sega Saturn version of C&C1 has no mix files, all files are in the root directory of the CDROM, Audío is normal cdtracks that can be played on a normal cdplayer.
If I remember correctly the only files I was able to recognice on the CD was all the mission map files (.ini and .bin like scg01ea.ini) and all the .vqa videos and conquer.eng / .ger / .jap or whatever they where called string files containing all name/text strings.

Well console games can be modded on the PC, but I don't think it is the same as the PC game files. I once had a program that could open PS2 game files from the disc (Used it to rip RE4 music #Tongue ), so its probably possible to open PS1 games also.

Would be epic if you converted the PS1 Ra1 into a non-DOS like version, with buildups etc and then managed to get it to work on a PS1. It's still fun to link-cable PS1s together for a battle. #Tongue

So is anyone here at PPM who owns a Redalert copy for the Playstation1 willing to post what the CD contains?

File list or files that can be recogniced?

Mix files?
Rules.ini?
conquer.eng?
any .ini files at all?

Conquer.eng, INI only for briefings. No rules!

I own red alert 1 and red alert retaliation for PS1 and even have the iso files however... It's not easy to mod them if impossible to be honest. I once came across a tool which ripped all the data files off the PS1 disc into some weird format I never was able to properly access, this was mainly because CnC Red Alert Retaliation had the Aftermath and Counterstrike FMV videos which were dropped in the PC version and I wanted to get them.

Anyway, don't hope for anything from the PS1 versions, all I can really say about them is, they have some interesting differences when it comes to Retaliation as it had a mission map select screen (not present in Counterstrike / Aftermath), different menus and some different artwork and a bunch of interesting fmv's ranging from briefings to just units.

Yeah I saw the videos that Nyerguds provided from Retaliation (or whoever it was). Too bad Westwood did not put that much effort on Counterstrike/Aftermath for Personal Computers Laughing

Im only interrested in Redalert (not Retaliation) at the moment but if its that hard to mod it (like C&C1 for Saturn) ill give up mabe Laughing .

So there is no recognicable files that may contain unit stats on the Redalert for PS1 cd Sad

Mission files might also work (remember that you can change any unit stats in missions like injecting a whole rules.ini into it and make whacky stats like the Super Tank mission on Retaliation/Aftermath and Paradox Equality mission where all unit stats are completly whacky and some other Retaliation/Aftermath/Counterstrike missions)

Another option would be to try and override one of the missions with your own mission (there are plenty of good Redalert1 map editors out there)
I believe Redalert(PS1)/Retaliation uses the same map format as for the PC

(C&C1 for Saturn (and some other games) uses the same map format as for the PC, ive tried it and you can copy C&C1 Saturn maps and videos to the PC version(also applies to SimCity2000)

yep, The Lost Files... I made that :p

And C&C1 for Saturn? Why mod that? I only got it (well, the ISOs, but I'd love to get my hands on the real CDs) because it contains its game music in CD audio format and has some tracks than aren't on the soundtrack.

And unlike the PS and N64 versions the Saturn version of C&C1 doesn't contain any new missions (save one very crappy test mission built on an existing GDI map), so why bother?

I never said I wanted to mod C&C1 for Saturn Nyerguds Laughing

I am only interrested if its possible in some way to change unit stats and stuff in Redalert for Playstation (Redalert or Retaliation) like in some sort of a Rules.ini or by mission files like they do in several Aftermath and Counterstrike missions.

That test mission is actually the map that is the ingame DEMO map if you wait long enough on the Title Screen)
