hopefully Blender models should work now. if not let me know.

i delayed this release a lot because there was one more feature i wanted to implement but then i decided to just leave it out because we weren't even sure anymore if we needed it and IcySon55 is in a depressed mood or something so he can't help me with testing anymore right now. the problem is that is seems the game does not display multi-sectioned voxels properly sometimes because it does not properly zbuffer the sections with each other and just treats them like 2d sprites instead of 3d objects or something like that. we didn't finish our testing. we don' t know how they are sorted. we'd appreciate if anyone knows something that could help us.

unfortunately i was not able to implement many of the features i wanted such as automatic self updating and GPU use for the viewer, however Judeau helped me get SDL working and i used it for allowing many different texture formats to work. unfortunately this also means that almost all of you will probably not be able to run my program anymore since it requires you to have those SDL DLL files on your computers and apparently there is no automated system to get them for you.

by the way, VK told me something very interesting he discovered about my program. it was about something very basic about software development that i was totally oblivious to this entire time. i look forward to more words of wisdom from him and others.

you can include those sdl files by putting copies of them in with the zip or rar archive that contains the program

Yeah. There isn't anything in the SDL license to prevent you from putting the .dll in there. You just have to add the SDL readme with it.

Sorry for the bump, but the version I downloaded from the site can't work with Blender models.

can you be more specific? like does it work partially or not at all? and btw the version from the official site does not work at all unless you have some SDL DLLs on your system.

It doesn't work at all. I can successfully convert 3ds to vxl, but not blend to vxl.

He didn't add .blend models, just fixed blender exported .3ds models conversion.
.blend is extremely complicated format.

It would be nice to also implement blend to vxl, some people can't get 3DS.

Very, very complicated.
(pointing at the very simple, always well exported from Blender format, ASCII Wavefront .obj #Tongue)
Seriously, try to export out .obj, load it trough Wings3D/Anim8tor, 3D Exploration (shareware) or anything else, export as 3ds, then convert.

Sorry for rising this perhaps stupid question, but can you make a vxl23ds tool?

Umm... Bump? Dont post in topics more than 1-2 months old without anything to contribute. And why do you want a voxel to 3ds tool? It will just come out as a bunch of boxes.

Didnt know this topic existed... but you dont need to make it read .blend files, blender allows exporting .3ds files. If people dont know this then they probibly dont use Blender.

Actually, a vxl23ds conversion is technically possible, it would just have a very low detail, and it would probably make mistakes (resulting from the low detail of a voxel).

There was a vxl to 3dsmax conversion script way, way back in the day.
Pretty pointless though, it was seriously slow and obviously all you end up with is a shape built out of cubes. You could maybe use it as a template for making your own model but it wouldn't really be worth the hassle.
