Tiberium Web is Down?
Subject description: last I checked atleast..
Has anyone been to TibWeb lately, It has a bunch of errors in the home page, and when i click on the forum index, or any forum for that matter it just says IPS ERROR.
As far as I know DvD knows about it being down and is trying to find the problem but so far his efforts have been to no avail. _________________ Kalistia Crestland (2)

I think I saw some of it and it was some weirdness about mutants and who was the messiah and prodding a tib. fiend with a stick... _________________ Yes, work on MV continues. It is not forgotten. QUICK_EDIT

I'm serious, this roleplay is CRAZY huge. Last december, Corsair put it all into a .doc, and it was 211 pages long... SINGLE SPACED! the file itself is 14.3 Mb. I have the file if anyone wants to read it, it's a very good story.
Since then I could guess that another 100 pages worth have been written on it - it was the single most viewed topic on the entire site. _________________ The Fall of Hammerfest - Epic Tiberian chain story

Here's what went on when I talked to DvD about this a few days ago...
Code:
[5:11:23 PM] Ṧįғ Ḿởđşǻłǿŧ: Did you get online to fix TibWeb?
[5:12:50 PM] Diederick/DvD/Nasty: i have no idea what is wrong
unfortunately
[5:12:56 PM] Ṧįғ Ḿởđşǻłǿŧ: Oh
It just looks like an SQL problem
[5:13:49 PM] Diederick/DvD/Nasty: i just renewed my license
so that's not the problem
i mean the license isn't the problem
[5:14:19 PM] Ṧįғ Ḿởđşǻłǿŧ: Well I mean the database
[5:16:31 PM] Diederick/DvD/Nasty: how long ahs it been like this?
[5:17:16 PM] Ṧįғ Ḿởđşǻłǿŧ: I dunno actually, I mean I just stopped by
the place to see if it was still active
[5:17:41 PM] Diederick/DvD/Nasty: i cannot log in to my ftp
wtf
[5:17:48 PM] Ṧįғ Ḿởđşǻłǿŧ: Oh f... wow.
[5:19:35 PM] Diederick/DvD/Nasty: oh
the hosting company wants me to change it
[5:19:39 PM] Ṧįғ Ḿởđşǻłǿŧ: Oh
[5:28:36 PM] Diederick/DvD/Nasty: it would help if that error message
actually gave a direction :S
[5:29:19 PM] Ṧįғ Ḿởđşǻłǿŧ: The one on the forum index? Because the
main site has loads of SQL errors in place of actual
content
[5:29:55 PM] Diederick/DvD/Nasty: it just cant connect to the database
server
[5:29:55 PM] Diederick/DvD/Nasty: but i just accessed that db in
cpanel
and it seems fine
[5:30:21 PM] Ṧįғ Ḿởđşǻłǿŧ: Wonder why it can't connect.....
[5:30:21 PM] Ṧįғ Ḿởđşǻłǿŧ: Ohhhh..... maybe there's a bad line
somewhere telling basically the whole site/forum where
to find the database
[5:32:05 PM] Diederick/DvD/Nasty: im looking at the config ini
it points to the right place
[5:32:19 PM] Ṧįғ Ḿởđşǻłǿŧ: That's....... screwed up
[5:32:19 PM] Diederick/DvD/Nasty: of course, since i never changed
that..
[5:32:35 PM] Ṧįғ Ḿởđşǻłǿŧ: Wait, maybe that IS the problem. Maybe the
address changed without affecting the actual server.
[5:41:11 PM] Diederick/DvD/Nasty: cant find anything unusual
i have to go again
later!
[5:41:20 PM] Ṧįғ Ḿởđşǻłǿŧ: :\
Later
[5:43:57 PM] Diederick/DvD/Nasty is now Offline
So you can see it probably won't be fixed. At least, not without finding Python and getting him to try something. _________________

You honestly think that can happen without converting the TibWeb database for pHpBB or converting this forum to IPB (which, IMO, is the more sensible decision of the 2)? SQL conversion is no small matter. I do agree, a merge would benefit to more of a point than restoring TibWeb, and the database is fully intact and functioning, but it's a rather enormous and arduous undertaking. _________________

oh please, someone fix tibweb. Even if i post now more on ppm, i still like tibweb more than ppm.
I really don't want to loose all the stuff we have made there. On tibweb were researches and new modding stuff found out that isn't even here on ppm.
For me it always was/is a neat elite modding forum. _________________ SHP Artist of Twisted Insurrection: Nod buildings
yea sure tibweb is a near dead site/forum. But like LKO said there were things going on that have yet to get put on over to here.
I love PPM too but tibweb just has a different feel to it that makes me like it better. Maybe it was the somewhat fitting tiberianish forum skin or perhaps just the set up of the forum that I liked better but it just always felt like home. PPM, Revora, and Freedomstudios all just feel like a close relatives house to me.
So yea I hope it gets back up and can stand for some more time still. _________________ Kalistia Crestland (2)

Well, if Python can't be found to get it fixed, the place you say feels like home won't be back on its feet, at least not for a long while. Like I'm saying, if we decide that we should move the active work on TibWeb to here, all we need is a database converter since TibWeb's database is just peachy and good; we wouldn't lose anything if it got converted properly. _________________

I'm with Ixith - I think since tibweb's community is smaller, we got a chance to get to know each other better, resulting in a closer community. Although it wasn't as professional as PPM, and couldn't necessarily boast a slew of elite hosted mods, the atmosphere was nice and casual, and provided a good place where we could chum around and talk about C&C.
Us tibweb moderators probably can't remember the last time we've had to really do our job, as tibweb never had many troublemakers or newbs. The Teacher's Lounge probably hasn't even been looked at in half a year
The relaunch of TumSun did not go as good as planned, and its never gonna get like that again.
In my opinion, bar in mind i have followed TumSun/TibWeb since 2004, just let it go, its getting more and more dead as the time goes by...
Get media etc, put it around other websites like PPM, then all is not lost.
indeed, thats the first thing i noticed when i came back, tibweb has gotten alot less active.
and i dont think this "downtime" will do it any good.
will it ever recover? not if notting changes.
tibweb needs to be more out there , set itself as the place for all your tiberium needs, but its lacking people that are devoted to do this.
it for the most part dropped the ball with CNC3, where u rarely see any news about it nor any maps, mods for it.
of course its easy for me to criticize standing on the sideline.
YAY 175 posts, after..... omg has it been so long _________________

Well, I know I wasn't the most active member there but it was a fun place to hang out, We almost got a new Tiberian Sun Server up that one time, that was alot of fun. I guess it had its time from late 2006 to early 2008, and now its time to move on, it was fun while it lasted, maybe there is a way to upload all those mods, maps, shp's and voxels to filefront, or host them here, because alot of work went into all those products that were never posted anywhere else, and if they don't appear again they would be lost forever. QUICK_EDIT
First off i'm sorry for not posting here earlier.. It just didn't really occur to me to check here, as i haven't been active online for ages, let alone loggin in to PPM.
I've spent the last 2 weeks posting support tickets at our host. The must think we're complete retards or something. They insist we have something configured wrong, while we haven't changed a thing and everything checks out. They won't check their server or help us find a solution.
Basically, PHP is fucked on the server. Even some simple <php> things, like at the bottom of the page, won't work for some unexplicable reason. While the sidebars who use the exact same method do. We can't even get into our forum's admin panel. Rest assured, everything's backed up though - At least Python was doing that last time we talked.
I'm about to give up on our host, maybe we can set up our forum somewhere else.. QUICK_EDIT
I used to see TumSun a lot (never registered though ). But when it went to Tibweb I lost interest (sorry!). Now I'd wish I would've taken the time to see Tibweb... QUICK_EDIT
I got a different error this time. It said that the server was misconfigured.
I was getting bored of the other error message.
