Aircraft Questions:
A few things I was pondering...
1) why cant I make railguns work on my Orcas! Is it the particle effect?
2) can you add a turret to an aircraft? ie: if I wanted to add the vulcan cannon turret to the back of an orca transport, could I do it?
3) can I make an aircraft deploy into something? what Id realy like is a "security vehicle" that you can deploy and looks like a hovering Orca transport with spotlights... Hell I want spotlights on anything! tanks, Infantry, whatever, can you do that without seploying?

- Never tried that before. What happens when you order the Orca to fire railgun?

- Also never tried, yet I've heard rumours that the game just doesnt accept it.

Railgun on an orca or jumptrooper if he's in the air pulls up an error of some sort and crashes the game. Im guessing its because of the particles. When the Ghost or Mammoth fires a railgun the unit comesa to a complete and total stop, fires, then once the shot has finished, resumes movement. What I think happens is since the tag "israilgun" or whatever is set to yes, the computer calculates how many damagable things are touching the line from ship to target and dispenses damage. But aircraft/jumptroopers bob and sort of wiggle when they fire, so it has to recalculate the damagable units, which the engine says is a big no no. But now that I realy think about it, making the weapon not a rail gun ie: it ONLY damages the target not everything in the path would be A-OK for an aircraft shooting down at something since the idea is to make it an a-10ish tank hunter, one good shot from above and boom. railgun shooting orca may have found its solution...
For the turret, Im HORRIBLE with anything but rules.ini, the other ones are a bit cooky for me. What I have traditionaly done is make a tweak of an Orca Transport with bomblet and bomblet (I use a special one, it airbursts and breaks into five submunitions, very good effect) and thought adding an AA turret to its back would 1) distinguish it 2) make it a somewhat more effective bomber, since I dream of dogfights one day...
no deploy eh? well thats cool, I just LOVE that spotlight effect and kinda wish you could add it to units, but alas I dont think you can...

What tells the AI to distinguish between a strafing and a shuffle weapon? Id like to make an Orca FIghter with a Vulcan Cannon that strafes Infantry, but every attempt ti just bobs there and shoots, thats not what I want! If you give it the Banshee weapon then it strafes, but I want a vulcan! QUICK_EDIT
I havent tried Lasers yet, though Id assume they work fine so long as there is no ambient damage, have you tried yet? If they crash the game as is I'll take a look QUICK_EDIT
