Subject description: Also known as, the Mammoth Killers
Reply with quote

The Mammoth Tank, Command and Conquer's classic super-tank.
Defining characteristics:
  • 2 guns of 120, 122 or 125mm caliber
  • 2 multi-purpose missile pods
  • Ridiculously thick all-around armor
  • Underpowered engine
  • 4 sets of tracks
  • High production costs
All in all, a formidable vehicle. The Mammoth poses a grand question to all who face and work with it- how to kill it?

(ps: The following images have links.)

For the Allies, the answer implied going beyond conventional anti-tank weapons. It led to the "Laser Tank", which with its L-10 Semi-Conductor Pulse Laser is capable of melting through the Mammoth Tank's armor quite easily. In true Allied fashion, there is nothing exceptional or remarkable about the design other than the technology under the hood.

For the Soviets, the answer wasn't exactly to kill it, but rather "replace it". A group of talented engineers created the "Stalin-7", building off the experience they had accumulated designing the earlier failed Stalin 1-6 projects. As fast as an Allied Medium Tank, exceptionally well armed at the cost of armor (relatively speaking to the Mammoth), the Stalin-7 is what some in the Soviet Union hope is the future of tank design.

For the Americans, isolated from the conflict in Europe, the idea of killing super-heavy tanks was an after-thought, until Chinese-built Mammoth Tanks (of the older variety) began showing up in the Sino-American War. The need for a tank capable of engaging Mammoth class tanks led to the creation of the M43 "Stonewall" Breakthrough Tank.

Whether these answers will prove correct for the question of killing the Mammoth is a matter of time, but given the material investments compared to the Mammoth, it's unlikely.

It's getting more and more interesting. Nice voxels.

The Red Alert universe takes place in an alternate timeline. There was also a full line of Russian tanks in the 1940s-50s named after him- the Iosef Stalin (IS) series.

Oh, and recent polls suggest that he wasn't/isn't universally hated by the Russian people.

Which brings me to...

Named that
for a reason

It's understandable that you guys don't know about the Iosef Stalin series, not a single voxel of any model has been released for public use.

PS the images on the first post ARE links.

The map is actually called Rainbow Islands. One start point has a blue accent to it, the other has a red accent, there an island to the north that has a green accent to it.

Allied color is blue, Soviet color is red, American color is green, so...yeah. #Tongue

It's understandable as the IS series (esp the later ones) are a bit obscure. Within the CNC community, every make and model of Soviet tank has been represented BUT the IS series. Only D-Day and Blitzkrieg have used them and one Chinese voxel maker released a vehicle based off an IS series tank before.

[15:52] <evanb90>http://www.eva251.ppmsite.com/Screenshots/SOVIETS_Stalin7.png <- my newest creation
[15:53] <DCoder1337> interesting
[15:54] <GraionDilach> Nice.
[15:55] <evanb90> TY. Figured it was about time somebody did an IS series voxel for YR
[15:55] <GraionDilach> IS?
[15:55] <evanb90> Iosef-Stalin
[15:55] <DCoder1337> a series of Soviet tanks
[15:55] <GraionDilach> Ah.
[15:55] <GraionDilach> Thanks.
[15:55] <DCoder1337> (Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iosif_Stalin_tank)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iosif_Stalin_tank
[15:56] <evanb90> There's only one IS-series voxel in the public domain and maybe 2-3 that MiG Eater made for D-Day
[15:56] <evanb90> to my knowledge
[15:56] <evanb90> Most people skip from T-34 to T-54
[15:57] <GraionDilach> Well, MIg's scrappack has 3 IS- tanks.
[15:57] <evanb90> D'oh.
[15:57] <GraionDilach> Is-1, Is-2, Is-3.
[15:57] <evanb90> IS-1/2 aren't very different other than barrel length (IS-1 = 85mm D-5 vs IS-2 = 125mm D-25-T)
[15:58] <evanb90> *122mm
[15:58] <GraionDilach> I see.
[15:58] <evanb90> but IS-3 is awesome.
[15:59] <GraionDilach> Indeed. (opened that voxel) #Tongue
[15:59] <GraionDilach> That D-Day scrappack is so huuuuge.
[16:00] <GraionDilach> 375 voxel...
[16:00] <GraionDilach> Insane.
[16:00] <evanb90> I was about to say that.

Ummm.... Cool

No this is a game, there is no point in sticking numbers on the end when it just looks and sounds a little silly. No ones ever gonna type the numbers in conversation. Stalin sounds better than Stalin-7.

Voxels were from D-Day, so my statement technically holds true. Razz

I'm against changing the name for the Stalin-7 as it stands. If more people provided feedback and concurred with your opinion, Omega, well...it's a two backspaces away from being "fixed".

I kinda like the number in this case. It's pretty much an exception, though.

And seven is just a mystical number. It must stay.

Besides, this mod is aiming for a more realistic approach then most others.... this definitely fits in.

And Bolt, it's not lame on the overused T-34/BMP-1 around 2005, eh? #Tongue Or Mammoth Mk II.

How sad... The laser tank is beautiful. Sadly the Stalin 7 is so much cooler.

The Stonewall looks like it has black outlining upon it with that lighting, though.

I like everything that I see so far! Though I agree the strange colours in some unit promotional shots don't really show off the nice voxels as well as they deserve! #Tongue
