Just a question, has anyone ever tried stripping the game down to its bare basics? Removing Weapons, Warheads, Anims, Units, Buildings etc?

I am interested in what problems arise when doing so, like hard coded types or limitations.

Anyone able to comment on this?

I tried it a long time ago but quickly gave up due to too many hardcoded things that caused IE's when removed.

-first 3 Animations
-tiberium overlays (iirc)
-droppod weapon
-no infantry (iirc if you don't have a single one, you get an IE as well)

In the end i didn't even come close to a stripped game.

However, it would be great to have something like this for TS and RA2.

I did the same with DTA and there indeed quite a few hardcoded things I came across that I couldn't remove; right now DTA almost only still contains the things from TS it actually needs (either because they're used or because the game will crash without them) and everything else has been removed or replaced.

I believe that Morpher has also removed everything possible from the inis as an attempt to improve loading times in TO.

I remember that loading time was a big issue back in the 90s and 00s, is it even a concern anymore? Is there a viable reward in performance or file size reduction in trying to gut the inis down to bare minimum?
