In Tiberian Dawn, there seems to be a distinction between BuildLevel and TechLevel. I've only looked at TD stats very superficially, but those two settings seem to function in much the same way. Could anyone enlighten me on what BuildLevel is supposed to do and what the difference is between the two?

If i'm not mistaken, TechLevel is used for multiplayer as the usual techlevel, while in singleplayer the BuildLevel can override it to restrict certain construction options. Like giving the player in a mission TechLevel=5 and some of his units with TechLevel=6 are earlier available due to BuildLevel=5.
Or some units are forbidden by giving them a higher BuildLevel than TechLevel.

Though i can be wrong about this, since TD modding is long ago and i never delved that deep into its modding capabilities.
Nyerguds would be surely the best one to answer this.

Erm to my recall in TD mission mapping, buildlevel is simply how high your tech level can go on that particular map, this is used especially in campaign to raise tech options as go by the missions.

Guess you can think of it as map based setting on tech level slider skirmish option.

If buildlevel is 1, you'll just make minigunners and such of tech level 1 and nothing higher.

So BuildLevel on a unit/structure is a sort of Alt.TechLevel for use in SP missions, while BuildLevel on a map (or the house section of a map) is the maximum tech level of that map (or house on the map).

Thank you both.
