Subject description: Slow ingame menu
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

While playing the current version of DTA I noticed an oddity with the menu for me while in game.

For me it seems the menu requires a considerable amount of time to load after hitting "esc" or after selecting a menu button.

I clocked the wait time to 4-13 seconds and it doesn't seem to be a constant
interval.

Another issue I found was after saving the game during a mission or skirmish the game freezes for a bit and requires me to click were the pop up for "mission saved" button is supposed to be (the menu is no longer visible at this point). Then the game does this weird "restart?" as if I had windowed out and came back into game.

My system:
    Win 7
    CPU: Intel Core i7 960 @ 3.20GHz
    RAM: 6.00GB Triple-Channel DDR3 @ 534MHz "total virtual" 22GB
(Memory usage when in game is 38% with steam, and teamspeak running in the background).
Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC. SABERTOOTH X58
Graphics: 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti

The previous builds of this game never seemed to have an issue like this so I figured I bring it up, Its not game breaking just annoying.

Also if anyone has already found a fix or solution and I missed it in the forums would you kindly place the forum link into this thread.

That with the menu that need 6-14 sek. loading time after pressing esc can be fixed when you change the render from ts-ddraw to default (I had this problem too in the past.) Rolling Eyes

I had this problem too because i had the same graphic card  Cool
to fix that problem you need to update the version of your graphic card because nvidia fixed that issuse with the invisible game menu in the last update.

Older GeForce drivers indeed had some issues, so updating to the latest driver version might indeed help. I currently have the latest driver installed and the ingame options menu opens instantly.

Fixed! Thanks changing it to default solved it all.

Default indeed gives the best performance for most people on Windows 7. I didn't think of mentioning it because Default is.. well, the default setting #Tongue

I'm guessing you changed it from Default to to TS-DDRAW afer a certain GeForce driver update, which made any mod based on the TS engine entirely unplayable.
After submitting a bug report they fortunately fixed this in a later driver version, making 'Default' performance-wise the best renderer again on Windows 7.

TS-DDRAW is the default on Windows 8 btw, so if the game is installed on Win 8 and then copied to 7, the renderer will stay as TS-DDRAW. But yeah, if the game was installed on 7, then "Default" is the default setting.
