Hi guys,

First of all I want to say Thanks to SHP Builder's developers. It's a real amazing tool!

I'm OpenRA user and I think that Red Alert 1 infantry units too big in compare to vehicles and buildings. I want to reduce their size by SHP Builder, and I faced with the quality problem after resizing SHP moders.

What exactly I did:

1. Opened model in SHP Builder;
2. Opened resizing options (ctrl+r);
3. Set 75% and "Maintain aspect ratio" option;
4. Resize Method is "Blocky.

Please look at attached file to see result. What I did wrong? How to resize units with proper quality?

Depends on what you call proper quality.

If this isn't enough good for you, then you have to export the SHP into a spritesheet with XCC Mixer, resize the result with Photoshop/Gimp using "Closest Pixel or how it's called" method then converting it back to an SHP via using Right-click Copy right click Paste as SHP then specifying the correct frame size/amount in XCC Mixer.

By the way, the original Red Alert includes infantry at the Tib Dawn scale for it's DOS version, so you should have those in your mixes if you have the original game. They're higher quality than you'll get by downsizing, especially since RA1 infantry already look upscaled instead of re-rendered. You would still need to resize any extra infantry ORA added though, like this zombie guy.

I mean lost elements of art like here on screenshot. WIth Photoshop I lost even more quality after resizing by closest pixel.

OmegaBolt

Will try to experiment with this tools. It's looks like it is no way to scale this units with out art editing. Confused

The smallest size is a pixel. You can't split a pixel in half.
It's normal that you lose detail in such a small size.

Yeah... resizing is lossy business with pixels and since 256 colored, it is harder while higher color can be more flexible it creates antialiasing and tons of other problems.
