After some cursory rifling through the files, the only file with substantial definitions of game attributes that I could find was armor.ini, which exhaustively defines the relations between warheads and armors, whereas the suggestively-titled weapon.ini and vehicle.ini only seem to define name, side, model and something called "ID" of their respective objects. Where would I have to go looking for things like multiplayer prices, weapon damage, unit health and the like?

If I recall right it is in a .big or .dat file in the game folder or one of its subfolders. XCC can open it just like a basic .mix

I've figured it out. To spread the word (since this community is awfully silent about Renegade modding in general), the bulk of the data is contained in always.dbs > objects.ddb. The former can be opened with XCC, the latter requires a different tool (found on tiberiantechnologies.org).
always.dat also contains several INI files that control aspects of the game not covered by the former.
