I'm looking for a new FPS
Subject description: looking for something new to play.
I'm looking for a FPS to play on the PC. Basically, not as high end end as Crysis, but something after DOOM. Renegade is a good FPS shooter, and something similair to that "buy your own tanks" skirmisg gameplay would be nice. Is Battlefeild 2142 a good game similair to that? I like to drive tanks and stuff, but also pull out th shot gun and storm a hallway when the time comes. I don't like historical games, I'd rather play that "20 years in the future" game style C&C has. I alreadfy have like every fps that came on the xbox(1). So no point in buying Halo 1 or 2, Doom 3, Anything Tom Clancy...

Hmm...A Path Beyond by the Bluehell group? It's a RA1 stand-alone for Ren. Rifle Infantry, Mammoths, Hinds, Apaches, Destroyers, Tanyas, you name it Web @ www.apathbeyond.com
Or you'll have to wait for Apocalypse Rising, also from the Bluehell, RA2YR, but it's not done yet.
(Ask gufu if you're interested in an Ren TibSun FPS stand-alone.) _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

Let's see....Timeshift, The Orange Box, Bioshock, F.E.A.R + Addons, Stalker, are all good. Much better than Crysis imho. Personally, I found Crysis was alot of hype about nothing. Even Hellgate London is pretty good played in 1st person.
Lots of mods & mutators(mini mod plug-ins), vehicles, maps,
Invasion (survive horde of monsters), Deathmatch TeamDM, CTF, Vehicle CTF, Assault (mission), Bombing Run (Score by shooting a ball into a goal) and Onslaught (the big game mode with vehicles in UT2004 compared to UT2003)
(It even got some C&C styled gameplay servers Its called CAC instead of C&C in UT2004)
(the server ive played on has a RA1 map, a C&C1 map and a TibSun map)
It may not be as new and demanding as Unreal Tournament 3 but its damn fun to play when you get a hang on it (I usually play Invasion(with RPG mutator) and Assault game mode becaus I suck at the others )
Hardware requirements for UT2004 that I recommend:
AMD AthlonXP/64/Sempron/X2 2000MHz / Intel C2D 1800MHz or better
2048Mb RAM (works with 1024Mb too), 20Gb free HD Space ,
nVidia GeForce 6800/7600/8600 / ATi Radeon 9800/X700 or better
UT2004 also supports microphone if you got one (I dont) QUICK_EDIT
As it has been said, APB PWNZ and it's 100% free, they've done a great job on the GFX and the gameplay is good too. Ever wanted to fire a V2 or drive a mammoth? Ever wondered what it was like being that Apache pilot firing rockets at a heavy tank whilst dodging missiles? Now you can find out. And it's hugely fun.
And if you get bored and want a 3rd person shooter you can just push "F"! _________________ Yes, work on MV continues. It is not forgotten. QUICK_EDIT
I has teh Halo
I has teh Halo 2
Ghost Recon + island thunder
Ghost Recon 2
Rainbow Six 3 + Black Arrow
Splinter Cell + Pandora Tommorow
Terminator Something
Mission Impossible
Area 51
Half Life 2
Doom 3 + Resserection of Evil
Golden Eye Rougue Agent
A couple others that left n impression....
(I should probably try to go outside)
A Path Beyond sounds like a fine choice, what I like plus new stuff (and boats!).
Gufu. mod. now.
(actually, I'm trying renegade to generals, maybe I could see what generals to renegade would be like (lol, awfully low poly infantry).
I have spending money, so I'll browse the mall. But honeslty, B2142 looks very cool from the box, but is it any good? _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT
Yeah APBFTW and it doesn't cost you anything so you can d/l it without spending any money and therefore buy another game as well! _________________ Yes, work on MV continues. It is not forgotten. QUICK_EDIT
It's 30% downloaded as I type.
Semi offtopic, I like controllers with FPS (i get cramps with extended mouse use), does Renegade/APB allow for a controller I can plug into the comp? (if ot I won't bother buying one). _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

Why are all those great mods (and games ) so ztyping huge! It takes hours to download with my poor internet connection...
On-topic: I suggest Battlefield (if it's possible, 1942 and 2), and Call of Duty. QUICK_EDIT
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is one of the most engaging and fun games of all time.
Half Life 2, HL2:Ep1, and HL2:Ep2 are excellent games, especially in the storytelling aspect.
Portal is by far the most creative and hilarious game of this decade...
Team Fortress 2 is the best team-based multiplayer game at the moment...
Oh, and Bioshock is pure genius,
Those 5 (7 if you count Ep1 and Ep2) games are the best I know of. Personally I recommend getting "The Orange Box" which includes HL2, HL2:Ep1, HL2:Ep2, Portal, and TF2, all for $50, or S.T.A.L.K.E.R., which provides hours and hours of fun. _________________

Oh man, I loved Portal! The song at the ending credits by the computer...that is a new classic! Reminds me of Duke Nukem 3D, when at the start of the final boss battle, Duke tells him he is going to rip off his head and crap down his throat. The cutscene after you beat the boss is of Duke walking over to the boss, ripping his head off, and while reading a newspaper, he craps down his throat. Classic stuff. lol Hopefully they will add the Portal Gun into the next episode of HalfLife2. That or the rumoured Portal2. The Orange Box is a great deal, so much game play for the price of a single game.
Bioshock is awesome as well. The atmosphere, the weapons, the story...fantastic! Watch out for the Big Daddies & Little Sisters!
S.T.A.L.K.E.R....all I can say is I'm eagerly awaiting S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky, the prequel.
Timeshift is good as well. If only because you can control time. You have a time suit that can stop, slow down, & reverse time, making for some interesting gameplay. In fact, the skill in using those abilities are required to advance in some levels. Reversing time so you can cross a bridge that just blew up, or making an assembly line reverse so you can get into the next room. Totally cool.

If I had to pick five FPS games you must play that you haven't listed already, Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Bioshock, No One Lives Forever 2, STALKER. All of them have given great replay value even though some are very linear in nature. You'd probably find DX and SS2 to be rather dated now, though. NOLF2 is a relatively old game compared to STALKER and Bioshock but it's still brilliant fun to play. _________________

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?
Linear?
Not if you play it properly. Try actually doing all the sidequests and whatnot, it's a very un-linear game when played properly.
I said some of them are linear. That is, Bioshock and NOLF2. I'm well aware that STALKER is extremely non-linear, although it stops you from entering places until you complete key parts of the story. _________________

LAY OF BF 2142, it sucks hard. It looks great from the box and trilers, but it sucks. Go for the BF2 Delux Super Edition (BF2+SP+some other)
And as many have said, orange box. And if you can wait intill christmas, buy Orange Box 2.
@ Rebelmoon
They will include some sort of portal technologi in EP3. Also, you will be alowed to enter the borealis (which btw was planed before the realise of HL2 ) As you might know, Portal's story runs parralel to HL2, and maby later parts of ep1. In ep2 you see the conection _________________ This is a signature QUICK_EDIT

Yeah, I saw the "Presentation" screen that someone from Black Mesa had been giving to the people at Aperture Science when things went wrong. lol They are (or were) a competitor of Black Mesa. Very cool idea Valve came up with. I remember the borealis from the end of ep.2. Can't wait.
