I know this is the Generals tutorial place, but since there is no renegade one, and also since you can use the models in General's, I will put it here.

Where to find the renegade infantry models and animations
*You must have XCC mixer for this, and w3d viewer may help also.

Got to your renegade directory and go intot he data directory.  Enter always.dat, for everything is located here.  You should make a new folder for the files you will extract, because there will be alot of them.  Each infantry comes in 4 parts:
The texture
The skin
The bones
The Animations.

The texture is almost always a .dds file, and since XCC usually orders by alphabet, these are by the top.  The textures for infantry almost universally begin with "c_" , so you can click c to go down to them.  There are a lot of textures, but as an example we will use the nod mini gunner.  Go down to c_nod_mg, and copy all the textures with that base to you folder.  You have the textures.

Next is the skin, which is a .w3d file.  Go done to that section.  The name of the infantry skin files all begin with "c_" also (and the skin name corresponds to the texture name).  So copy all the .w3d with the name c_nod_mg into you folder.  Thats it for the skin.

The next file, the bones, are universal for all characters, with a few exceptions.  The file is a .w3d, and it's name is S_A_Human (for men) and S_A_Human (for females).  Since the nod mini gunner is a male, we will copy S_A_HUMAN to our folder.  IF you want, you can open .w3d viewer and open all of the files in your folder to view what we have so far.  (it should look like figure 1).

The final step is getting the animations, and it was a royal pain for me to find them.  (Ingeniously, I looked at the character.ini and at the Anim= tag to discover where the file was, but thats not really important for you).   There are a couple sets of animations, and they correspond to which bone set you choose, S_A_Human or S_B_Human.  The files are  .w3d file with the names h_a_a0a0 (for men) or h_b_a0a0 (for women).  There are a whole bunch for both of them, so make sure you copy all of those files with their proper prefix.  You should now restart .w3d viewer and load up all the files you copied into the folder, and it should look like figure2.

So to recap, you will need:

C_Nod_MG textures
C_Nod_Mg .w3d files
S_A_Human bone set
H_A_a0a0 animations[/list]

Nope, as skeletons and models are 2 seperate parts. You can import those in 3DS Max with the BFME2 Mod SDK (google it) Wink
