Subject description: export vxl files to raw voxel data
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

Hi,

I'm actually not working with tiberian sun etc games but developing voxel based haptics rendering where I need to sculpt some models for testing and this editor seems good for the job. To make a long story short, has anyone a converter/extractor of the raw voxel data from .vxl files?
The raw format is just one (or two) bytes per voxel defining color, nothing else.

best regards
jonas

I've never heard of the raw format, to be honest, so I have no clue if there is any converter for it.

Perharps I can make it save raw voxels if you give me the complete specifics of this file format (and does it store normals?).

I don't think he is speaking of a .raw, but rather just a format where he can read all of the data. Maybe something he can open in notepad an see how the data looks.

Sorry for being unclear, what I meant by raw is to have the voxel data as binary file with each voxel represented by one byte, and no header etc. Of course, this "format" doesnt know the dimension or anything, so a better one is for example nrrd http://teem.sourceforge.net/nrrd/ but if we know the dimension and spacing we can create a nrrd from a raw file/data.

I'd love to allow VXLSE III to export voxels using a public format where other programs would read, but at the next 6 months, I have no free time to implement something like that, because of my final project (I really need to get graduated).

I have just written some code that can read VXL files, it would be trivial for me to write something that would output in the NRRD format.

Would that be suitable?
