The sidebar is messy. The buildings don't look good in brick scheme, a cool white scheme would fit better. The voxels look ridiculously cartoony as they lack any real texturing work. And the infantry are all bunched together so you can't see any real detail on the individual units.

Very unnatural animation. Focus on making the people, well, move like people. Take an art class at the community college or two and you'll figure things out pretty quickly. Shoulders *appear* a bit too wide too.

2 years at a community college should make up for the lack of improvement over the course of the last 7.

Then again, common sense doesn't always make sense.

Later.

The better question is do we want any of it? Some cool ideas in here, but most of it looks like shit.

Mm, I disagree. Yuri & Empire buildings are great (esp. Yuri), also nice maps and yes, plenty of inspiring concepts.

Infantry doesn't really fit the originals but it's not like there are many infantry artists around.

Keep it up Mad.

I still wish I could get a full set of recreated infantry based on the CnC3 or RA3 art sets. Of course, the only way I'll get that most likely will be doing it myself.

One thing about the EotS Screenshot...

They're using High-Tech Robotics... and they're using COAL PLANTS? Laughing

Aside from that they're nice. You could try watching in-games of RA3 to see how Yuriko Moves. Getting some reference of the floating Yuri Prime wouldn't hurt either.

That was more of a slandering than an opinion on how to improve it. A useless, provoking response especially knowing the previous relations between Mad and yourself.

I'll say that the voxels aren't always the best, but MadHQ has the best buildings in the community by far when he bothers to finish and release them. :p

EDIT: I just caught the EotRS "Robotics Bay" which is obviously nicely based on the Starcraft version. :p

For the most part, the problem is that while they're modeled and textured pretty well, the rendering job leaves them looking a little gritty, and not quite as defined as the westwood ones. He also seems to turn a blind eye to the form conventions of Westwood's buildings - the soviet buildings were never so blocky or bulky.

So in general, the texturing and modeling is there, but the aesthetics and rendering are off. And until those are fixed, his stuff won't truly fit. Also, the contrast isn't high enough on anything, it seems. And too many little things muddle it up.

Just my (constructive) criticism for once. Because MadHQ has the abilities to make some pretty awesome stuff if he'd just render it a little more accurately. That's just what I observe.

Never said he did. But doing so certainly wouldn't be a bad thing. I won't deny his work is good, but those are the things that need to be improved before it's *great*. Just my thoughts.

Thing is:

-The voxels are too light
-the buildings are too dark.

So Mad decided to make the buildings lighter.

Yes, but with for example his soviet-style buildings, wouldn't it be better if they fit in with the existing ones?

Or else they stand out.

If he's replacing every building, the issue of 'fitting in with existing ones' becomes irrelevant.

Well I agree that the rendering needs some fixing. As I said back on like page 5 I think they're actually [i]too[i] sharp (or it is possibly the textures). It just kinda confuses my eyes whilst RA2 stuff is much softer.

For the EotRS Side, maybe make the Brick Parts in their buildings something more akin to Chrome White. That was how they also made each of the sides Buildings stand out.

Allies = Clean, Metallic & Futuristic

Soviets = Dirty, Solid & sorta Diesel-Punk, In RA3 they were fully Diesel Punk

Yuri = Exaggerated, And Over the Top (Yuri-shaped Weather-Vanes),Evil Looking (Pointed & Jagged Edges)

EotRS = They were all about Futuristic, Using a Chrome White theme on it alongside the Yellow Color made them look more futuristic and oriental as well. Aside from the obvious Japanese Cliches & Stereotypes they incorporated into their Theme.

MadHQ, can you convert "grinder" and "ore pit" maps for ra2? I'd like to get them added to Ra2's XWIS Quickmatch/map patch.

You should post more of them on strike-team.net they would get a lot more action.

But I do still have the two test shp's witch anyone can download and try to use if they want... I do not want to work on them any more...
