I might be re evaluating our accepting 3D lego models.. This stuff is excellent!
EDIT: I think we should accept both physical and 3d models, and give a bonus for physical models just to keep it even.. _________________ The Fall of Hammerfest - Epic Tiberian chain story

it'd have to be a big advantage for real models.
Unlimited bricks of any colour is a pretty big advantage...
I'd, personally, give an extra 25% for real models. QUICK_EDIT

Or maybe split the comp into 2 categories, 3d and physical (as in 2 competitions).
Because 3d is a huge advantage, and you can also have unlimited amount of bricks and other pieces!(as mentioned before)
Hmm... Splitting the competition... But that would go against the spirit of the competition. Remember, this contest started from the idea in the Nostalgia Thread; there's nothing nostalgic about 3D.

In light of the recent Nostalgia thread I noticed a load of us are into legos, including myself. I was thinking the possibility of getting a contest together for making some C&C units out of legos. I personally haven't dug out my legos in a couple of years, but I'd really love to take em out and make something awesome like the good old days.

I LOVE LEGO!!!
I LOVE COMMAND & CONQUER!!!
I did a lot of model, but I took down them because I've not enought pieces and I can't buy them now ...
Now I have only the models of:
Mammoth Tank MK III
Orca Transport
Harpy
Civilian Car ()
GDI Radar
I found this and this on the net and ... I WANT THEM!!!!!
I did also some virtual models, but I can't make it real ...
Can I put here virtual models also? _________________ It's 1000 times better a broken XBox 360 than a brand new PS3!

New rule regarding 3D models: you may submit 3D models that you have made, but they won't count in the actual competition, except for honorable mention _________________ The Fall of Hammerfest - Epic Tiberian chain story

When I saw Altomare's sig in another thread, and then hunted down this thread, I was so excited seeing how much I love to create LEGO models based on video game vehicles and structures. But after reading the fine print of the rules, I'm greatly disappointed. It's such an excellent idea, but maybe it's just me, but I see several major flaws:
1. If anything, I see the requirement for a real-life physical model anything but making this fair/evening the playing field. If it had allowed 3d models (either from the Digital Designer you mention or the much better Lego version of Autocad), the only limit is imagination. Requiring it be physical now creates striking differences in potential between those with a small collection of blocks they saved from when they were a child and those with massive collections.
(Really, do you want someone like me entering when I'm an AFOL with a resource of 20+ years of continuous LEGO collecting leading to hundreds of thousands of blocks at my disposal when, say, competitor X just has a single bucket of LEGOS? That can't be considered fair.)
2. Have you ever actually used the LEGO Digital Designer to purchase your own creation? I have and the wait for the item to arrive can be quite lengthy, possibly easily risking missing out due to the deadline at the end of this month.
Not to mention other flaws with that program such as:
a) I've used the Designer enough to know that it randomly likes to delete some of your blocks. (It gives you a message when you load the model next time but never specifies what was removed or why.) I've had countless LEGO projects fouled up by the program deleting blocks it considers placed in a manner not physically possible (even though I know they can be from past experience).
b) The lack of colors, especially those accurate to the various CnC sides. Assuming someone did design their model and order it and receive it in time, the Digital Designer has 2 sets of blocks, ones you can use in personal models (excellent variety) and a set (highly limited) that you can order from LEGO Group. This isn't so much of a flaw, but since earlier posts suggest possible strictness on color usage, I brought this up.
c) No treads. Unless they've changed the program, you won't be ordering tank models with treads. So, you either have to already own treads for the physical model, or make some sacrifice to realism (yet you're looking for moving/functioning parts).
Rant aside, the contest is a great idea, and I also have one question:
Must it absolutely be vehicles only or can it be a LEGO recreation of a structure from the CnC games? I personally want an excuse to make the Yuri Bio Reactor or the Soviet Cloning Vats. QUICK_EDIT

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.
The main idea of the contest, is simply to see & build some sexy C&C lego stuff.
That said, I actually wouldn't mind going up against someone with more skill/bricks than me (Myself being 21 with all the bricks I've owned since I was a kid)
I couldn't think of a fair way that physical models could compete with virtual ones, which is why I reluctantly chose to not include virtual models.
But hey, if enough people want it, we can have 2 separate segments, one for virtual and one for physical.
In fact, I'll edit that into the rules right away, as long as the judges are okay with it..
I'd jump in if 3D legos were allowed....and I also wouldn't know if using fake/local lego pieces is legal :S _________________ Please, I DON'T read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT
Alright. I've got my model finished and photographed, now who do I send it to? There seems to be a little confusion among the judges, so I'm not 100% sure. LKO? QUICK_EDIT
If I have enough time, I'll make a motorized Generals Humvee with suspension and a sort of functioning Tow missile, because my block Gattling Tank looks like nothing, though it's definatey a Gattling tank. QUICK_EDIT
There is my RA3 Century Bomber (I'm making also the RA2 Rhino Heavy Tank)
There are also two scenes that I made, original and with special effects, with:
- Airport with orca transport, orca fighter and spy plane;
- Radar
- Turret (cannon)
- Missile (near the Turret)
- Comanche
- Mammoth Tank
- Rhino Tank
- Dozer
-Civilian Car ( )
I think the two scenes doesn't count, but I posted it anyway.

Seeing my exams coming up soon I'll go for the Zero Hour Helix instead, maybe when i find some time the Humvee will be there after all.
Humvee takes too much time, cause i can't find two parts i need, however the engine, suspension and gearbox are working and maybe the turret will be done soon to. QUICK_EDIT
You need to push back the date for the deadline, it's in 2 days and I barely have anything built, I've been tied up with school and lots of homework! QUICK_EDIT
I have 3 submissions right now from
Orac
Mikeboy
srowell3
Is there anyone else working on a model and needs the extension of the deadline to november 14? _________________ SHP Artist of Twisted Insurrection: Nod buildings
In which timezone do you live?
Here in germany we still have 8 hours left till November 15
And i wouldn't have a problem with PM's which arrive tomorrow morning. I won't send the submissions to the other judges before tomorrow midday anyway. _________________ SHP Artist of Twisted Insurrection: Nod buildings

If it takes too long, maybe we should consider public voting. We all know how it can be, waiting for judges to get off their arses _________________ The Fall of Hammerfest - Epic Tiberian chain story

I'm still waiting on Crimsonum
If he won't send me till sunday the results, i'll release the final results only with Altomare and my votes. _________________ SHP Artist of Twisted Insurrection: Nod buildings
