I haven't posted on PPM yet, but some of you may know me. I'm the guy responsible for most of the stuff in old MO #Tongue . I've been working on my own mod, Doom Desire, for some time now, but i had to pause for a longer time. I released a public beta, and didn't do any updates since then.

Recently, i started making public updates for my mod again. I noticed that Banshee mentioned me in one of the community news updates (ty Banshee #Tongue ), but i didn't see any mentions once i started posting unit screens, so i have to fix that. #Tongue

But first things first, let me introduce the faction list:

  • Essence (the defenders of Earth)
    They appeared suddenly, when all hope was lost. Their knowledge allows to hit the invaders in their weak spots. What is their origin, and what purpose do they have in collecting the mysterious crystals that started appearing around Earth?
  • Vintarids (the invaders)
    It is unclear what is the purpose of their attack, but their methods are cruel and gruesome. They razed many cities through orbital bombardment, then started abducting those that survived. They also have some unclear relation to crystals - often collecting them, sometimes destroying on sight.
  • Paladins (sided with neither, attacked by both)
    In the beginning of the war their presence wasn't really noticed by anyone. They seem to be able to make uninvited guests... leave and ignore them. And whatever the crystals are, they appear to know how to use their power.

Now, that introduction is done, time for some media.

Paladin Eidolon

Daytime image.

Deploy anim (not converted into shp, so the crystal has a different color than it will have ingame).

  • weapon treated as large (extra damage to small units)
  • ignores vintarid energy shields (deals full damage)
  • crystalline armor (reduced damage from non-conventional weapons)
  • vulnerable to vintarid antipsionics
  • deploys to become invisible
  • on deploy multiple Eidolons can support each other


Essence Ares Main Battle Tank


  • smoothbore 120mm cannon - good on heavy armored targets, extra damage against small targets, has problems hitting infantry
  • can carry one passenger


Essence Zeus Surveillance Airship


  • EMP Generator
  • robotic - mindless, immune to radiation, no driver, doesn't get experience
  • electron shield - receives 25% damage from energy projectiles
  • mindless, immune to radiation, no driver, doesn't get experience


Essence Artemis Hunter Drone


  • 2x 45mm Autocannons - good on infantry and lightly armored targets
  • mindless, immune to radiation, no driver, doesn't get experience


Vintarid N'hre Combat Craft (a.k.a. "Bad Omen Star")

Daytime image. This unit has player colors in green, not red. Red is part of the unit regular coloring.


Nighttime image.

  • 3x spike "cannon" - good against light armored targets, deals little damage to heavy armor and buildings
  • vintarid shields - receives 25% damage from energy projectiles
  • fast and versatile, can attack ground and air targets
  • unlike other vintarid spacecrafts, new ones can be constructed on Earth


Other news
Now, that i mentioned greek gods (god of war! :p ), Doom Desire is using Ares dll for some time already, leaving NPatch behind. The old beta isn't going to be changed, but any public releases from now on will require Ares to work properly.

Doom Desire has also joined the ModDB community. The mod profile is linked below. If you like more frequent updates, remember to check it, as i will be putting updates there before making a large update post on the forums (and some, such as backstories and concept arts, will be ModDB exclusive).

Maps
Except for the maps that are available in the released version, i made a few more maps and added them to DD. Here are 2 of them.
Sadly, i don't have new building graphics yet, so the old ones will have to suffice for the previews. :p

Craterfalls (2-2)
Rabid Rat Race (2-2) (this map is made for very short games in mind - hence the name :p ).

And for the finale, a small ingame preview of the N'hre Combat Craft.

Vintarid N'hre Combat Craft looks awsome at night time good work on that and Btw in the video are those fighters handle a special type of logic developed by ARES ?
