Yup, that's the news. Disney is buying Lucasfilms for like $4 billion and plan to make a Star Wars Episode 7 by 2015 and eventually probably an episode 8 and 9.

The BBC news article covering it.

So...since we're all sci-fi fans to at least some extent...i'm sure there's opinions to be had and heard here about it.

Maybe I will like Star Wars now. Though I liked the idea that it was now dead, seeing a new film every couple of years is terrifying. If they just do like 3 more then it could be cool.

If they will ditch the ultra-dramatic love story 1-3 had (especially 3) and keep the effects from those movies, I might be interested.

To be honest, we can at least assume that at worst, the new episodes will be Direct-To-Video.

So everyone is up in arms about Disney buying Lucasarts, but honestly getting Star Wars out of the hands of Lucas is probably the best thing for the franchise. Plus they bought Marvel and look at all the changes that have been made, you know, nothing.

Which sums up my stance too. And when you note that Pixar was formed by some ex-LucasArts folks, it seems more like they've come full-circle than anything else.

I agree with this, specially since it means that Lucas himself won't be in charge anymore.

I just wanna know if they'll setup a theme park of Lucas Films in Florida by february 2013. That's the only thing that matters for me #Tongue Laughing

If they don't... well.. it's ok, I'll still have a lot of theme parks to go and enjoy, specially Busch Gardens Smile.

Well i don't think it be bad for the movie industry , since it hasn't had a good idea in a long while.
I don't think starwars is over i mean look at the game industry its still selling these knock off's . IMO starwars movies are suppose to be dead it is way past its used by date

PS:At least my joke was funny and corny. Razz

I've declared SW dead from the moment they began pod racing so I don't really feel bad about this.

a few thoughts

-I'm wondering if ol George Lucas has some kind of health problem, and like Steve Jobs wanted to make sure it was taken care of before he kicks the bucket or something

-I wonder what this will mean with all of the zillions of Expanded Universe books etc out there? Like EA when they took Westwood, I think there's a good possibility Disney will clusterf*** the story canon, intentionally or not.

-If you ask me, I think they should start with Shadows of the Empire, or even some other popular Expand Universe series like Heir to the Empire. maybe in CGI format similar to Clone Wars, so you don't have to worry about the original actors all being old and fat.

"Disney clusterfucking the canon"

Guys...Avengers. That is all. Disney owns Marvel. Have they fucked it up yet? No.

Whoever is making the decisions at Disney Studios is making RIGHT decisions.

All of the bad super hero movies, X-men, fantastic four, etc. Are owned by Fox. THEY have fucked it up. Captain America was meh, but Iron man? Spot on. Disney has proven more than capable of adhering to the spirit of intellectual property they acquire...unlike a certain video game industry giant we all know of...

If anyone clusterfucked the canon of the story, it was Mr. George himself.

Episode 7 to 9 cannot be as bad as 1 to 3. Especially 3. Oh god, that movie was awful. I hope they're awe-inspiring like 4, 5 and 6, which were, you know, great.

Marvel also owns Transformers and that Baytastic thing was a rape of the franchise.

Hasbro owns Transformers. They leased it to Marvel for comics. They leased it to Dreamworks and Paramount Pictures for movie distribution. I am fairly certain that Hasbro produced it in house and Paramount financed it.

I'm on the fence about this. If it's good, I'll be satisfied. If it's not... well I don't really care. I have more important things to worry about. You know... like Life and shit.
