Does anyone know more about this?
Would be a shame if all the tibweb exclusive assets, tutorials and research topics are gone.

Is DvD still around?

I haven't seen DvD in ages, so Python is probably the person to go to... Although he hasn't been all that active either lately.

It seems like it's been down for about a week or so. that's all i really know.
I check in on it every day and it always takes a long time just to say Problem Loading page/connection to server was reset.

I did, however, notice something was up just days prior though as in the last few months there's been a crap ton of 'Guests' viewing tibweb...most likely bots or something though...however, like the last 2 or 3 days before hand there was nothing on there at all the times I checked it.

The only activity that was going on during that time was the Creative Writing area where TB, Corsair, and a couple others were finishing up a collaborative story and a couple recent posts in the Staff Lounge from TB and DaTS i believe. but yea it would be a shame if something happens to it's resources despite the forums otherwise complete deadness.

The solution is very simple: Somebody failed to update tiberiumweb's DNS settings.

tiberiumweb's nameservers are currently ns1.metaregistrar.nl and ns2.metaregistrar.nl, declaring tiberiumweb to be at 184.154.160.9.

In all likelihood, tw should be using ns1.siteground282.com and ns2.siteground282.com, declaring tw to be at 184.154.233.8.

If you manually change your DNS settings to have tiberiumweb.com point at 184.154.233.8, you can reach the site just fine.

(And if you don't know how to do that, you have no business trying to do that.)

iow: Somebody responsible should read their mail and/or check their host's control panel and update his configuration according to their instructions.

Because of the website's inactivite for, well, several years now, why do you persist in keeping "exclusive material" in this sinking ship? Wouldn't it be better to save and move the material elsewhere, like PPM?

Hey guys.

I changed the settings to the ones Renegade provided and it seems to work. Now as to what caused the site to move, it could be related to the fact that I didn't renew the site's hosting plan at Siteground. They must've moved it to another location in preparation for the cancellation of the entire thing.

The reason why I didn't renew it is because, well, the site's completely dead (aside from the TS mapping and modding forums it seems, and Aro diligently updating it with TI news #Tongue).

I backed up the entire ftp a few days back but in all honestly I wasn't even planning to make any sort of statement or notification about killing off the site :/ I honestly didn't think anyone would still care, sorry for that. I'm very busy with studies atm and actually never give the site a moment's thought aside from when Siteground bothers me about it (which they recently did concerning the renewal of services, which I declined).

So while I'm here I may as well urge all whom it concerns to back up any exclusive stuff or move it to PPM. If anyone's interested in the backup files let me know and I could upload them. Which reminds me.. I don't think I backed up the forum database.. I think I forgot how to do that, at least I cannot for the life of me remember it right now, so if anyone would enlighten me, that'd be nice.

BTW, the hosting expires at 30th dec, if I understood Siteground correctly (which isn't always easy) that's the date they will physically delete the files from their server.

Oh, and PMing me on here is the correct way to contact me, as it'll email on an account I still use. I'm no longer admin on GameReplays because the owners are a bunch of scrubs.

sad news as Tumsun and Tibweb always had a better atmosphere than here at PPM or any other place for that matter. But it was obviously coming to this sort of end.

I personally wouldn't mind having the back ups for all the stuff if possible.
I'm going to go through and get anything related to my works ahead of time by the 30th for sure though.

Oh man... that's a sad news. I hate to see friendly sites going down and TiberiumWeb has a hell of a history if you count the TiberiumSun.com era. If you wanna keep an archive of it, use the FTP setup that I've just sent you. I'm able to park your domain here in the future, if you desire, so if you hit tiberiumweb.com, you'd still reach the archive after december 30th.

In honesty, when TumSun changed to TibWeb it kinda ended it for me. Definately sad the way the site went but it happens I guess.

It's really sad that tibweb will see an end. Crying or Very sad

At least we have some time to do backups of all the useful stuff and put it here.

Is it possible to take the tibweb graphics and create a new board style for PPM with these?

My best wishes to your future online activity DvD. It was a pleasure to be part of tibweb.

Shame, but i agree with Morpher.

The website was trying to recapture the old atmosphere, what could never be done.

I noticed LKO copying tutorials over from TibWeb. I think i will have a look back at my posts and recover some information.

Someone should check all downloads, media etc and make sure these can be found at other sources.

Better start transferring then, I see LKO has already made a start on the tutorials.

I think I transferred now all the most useful tibweb-exclusive tutorials.

For those who are interested, i also copied a while ago all the cool tibweb emoticons on my ppm ftp. (these are the ones, where i removed already the white border on several gifs)

I'm now transferring all my assets from tibweb to ppm.

I've started the upload process, and I've just downloaded a copy of the forum database (it's 100MB, 20MB in a .rar).

You guys should treat it as community property as far as I'm concerned. If someone wants to, they could set up a copy of the forum here, though I'm not sure what the purpose of that would be other than catering to nostalgia.

Today it could be nostalgia, tomorrow it could be more content for Tiberian Sun being created.

NOOOOOOOOOO my post count!! Laughing for the record I was the only Core defender rank on the site, so there!!

It's good that there'll be an archive though, in case there was anything we forgot. I still remember the ensued chaos when tumsun randomly bit the dust. Here's hoping it'll be relatively to access, so that if we need something from it, we don't have to beg for too long #Tongue

For all the fans of the Hammerfest roleplay, good news! Corsair and I will be resuming it here on PPM, some time in the recent future. He is actually assembling the entire thing in a Word Document, which is probably going to turn out something like three hundred pages, single-spaced!!
We'll copy down the stuff on Page 9 so any new readers won't be too much out of the loop. Also, since we're trying to close up the RP, chances are we're not going to accept new participants though, sorry!

Gotta say though, tibweb had a good run, but it was inevitable

It still has one, but the limit was raised a bit, so links can be easier included.

I take it the question of how to get the DB backup is answered, then. ^^

Though I remember the TiberiumSun times more than its antecessor, it is sad indeed to see another long-standing community site go down.
otoh, I do know how it feels when stuff like that turns into a chore, so no worries about making an honest decision. You had a good run - thank you for your service to the community.

TibWeb will be missed. Hopefully there will be a method for being able to access all of its data, even after it's shut down for good.

Unprofessional moderation*, bot invasions and the fact that it was actually impossible to register for a good long time had something to do with it too. I enjoyed the TiberiumSun/TiberiumWeb times as much as any of you did (despite the getting myself banned thing that happened about 5 or 6 years ago, but that's another alcoholics story for another alcoholicy day), but every single one of us knew that because of the amount of members lost in the transfer and the lack of new members joining, it was only inevitable, you even said that yourself in the post above. Rolling Eyes

It's as Renegade said, the site had a great run but when the site reaches the point where there is one active topic and about 3 active members (if even 3!), then it pretty much just becomes a pointless chore to keep the site up and running. Keeping exclusive assets to the site is one way to show it's value, sure, but it's pointless when we all knew this would happen.

* Spotlighting your own voxels and replying to topics before crapping them with a picture of the "O RLY Owl" is not a good way to use your moderator abilities, in your own mod forum maybe, but not on the whole board. Nothing personal though so don't think I'm just digging at you. ^_^

I don't remember the O RLY owl thing.. but I do remember the drunken rampage! #Tongue

I agree it was inevitable, but I won't start patting myself on the back for some doom-misering prophetic gift. On my integrity I always gave tibweb a good effort all the way down, and I think if we all did, then the admins would have the morale and confidence to get their shit together.
After all, who would really want to put the effort to maintain a site where people just come and bellyache about it. Each and every person who did that was part of the problem.

I think we really gave them enough time for that. The place had active discussion about various things for multiple years while the admins didn't lift a finger to keep their site up. No offense meant to the shiny plastic disc though, I'm just stating how I felt it was.

I meant back in like 2010 when I would complain and have that attitude, then everyone would yell at me :p

Well to be honest Rampastein, I had given up on the site long before most, because I was quite aware that without motivation from admins no site will survive. And I had already lost my motivation when I stopped playing TS and started playing Zero Hour. That said, the unfortunate troubles we had with hacks and downtimes outside of our control certainly didn't help.

I've spent the last few years wondering why people were even bothering to post on TibWeb anymore.. it sounds kind of cold and harsh perhaps, and I never expected to feel (or rather not feel) that way about about it, but i do.

I've been very active on another site (GameReplays.org) for about two years, one of which as moderation administrator, but as I saw the site ownership slipping, and the site along with it, I left. Now I'm not really active on any forums anymore :/

I don't remember anything about the ORLY owl tbh. I don't think that was me, was it? <_<

Honestly, I'm not the best person to say this (considering my history at PPM), but you could have hired another administrator. Ixith would have been an excellent admin for TiberiumWeb, in my humble opinion.

It was something that Team Black did for a very short period of time until some members of the community bashed him for it. Nothing serious.

well the thing is they did....

first they hired Bittah...but by that time, like Bittah said (i think?), there was already a ton of people needing validated that it was overwhelming.
then they hired Tore but Tore was busy with his own site and forums and by that time it was pretty much over anyways.

and while I think, had I been given an admin role, that I would have gone through and done the validating and what not (or so i'd like to believe)...I'm not sure if I would have been able to help with anything technical like bringing the site back up if it experienced down time or anything like that. I would have just been a Global Moderator with validating powers pretty much. But I thank you for the opinion that I would have been a good admin for Tibweb.

The bot problem would have been easily fixed but updating the forum to a new version of IPB or changing to an updated version of another forum. I tried several times to acquire the required rights to do so, but it seems to have fallen on deaf ears.

After that I decided that I cannot help, if the admins can't help me help them.

I had many ideas on what could be done on TibWeb, but every time I tried to contact Python I got no response.

In retrospect I see now should have posted them in the admin forums.

I should have have retired as Admin about 5 years ago.

I never felt TibWeb had the spark that TumSun had.
www.tiberiumsun.com should have just been kept imo
It had a huge history and many users.

I remember getting occasional emails from old fans coming across TibWeb and wondering where TumSun had gone.

Either way it felt like it was just a clone of ppmsite for most of its entirety

I think the idea to get rid of TumSun for TibWeb may have been something to do with Felix wanting to hold onto the tiberumsun.com domain

But im not sure of the ins and outs

Don't get me wrong, there was also alot great about TibWeb too for some of its time and alot of hard work by the admins/mods at some point

Ditching TumSun had more to do with the fact that Felix maintained full control over the site and didn't give any of the moderators administrative privileges, meaning that whenever DvD or Python wanted something to be changed, they'd have to mail Felix and then often have to wait for over a month until he'd finally make the requested change.

So the motive behind moving to TibWeb was really about giving control of the site to the people who actually ran it, rather than having it controlled by someone who never even visits and couldn't care less about modding or C&C. And the fact Felix couldn't care less was shown by the fact that he quickly removed the redirect links from TumSun after the move and sent the old members a message to expect something new in place of TumSun... which ended didn't have a thing to do with modding or C&C at all (I don't have a clue how he got the silly idea in his head that any of the old members would've been interested in something which has nothing to do with what they came for in the first place).

I seem to remember he was making money off the hits he had from the TumSun domain via adverts or something

Which is why he didn't want to give it up (and proves how popular the domain once was)

Yeah, Felix pretty much killed off the site without any forewarning to the people that were running it..

Basically the only option we had to keep the TumSun community alive was to set up a new site.. but that took longer than we wanted to, as we weren't very experienced setting up a new site at all. I don't think we'd have managed if we didn't have a fairly recent backup of the site. I think it turned out pretty good, I especially liked the different sections/layouts of the main page a lot; but it soon started suffering from lack of admin motivation as well as some unfortunate technical issues. I loved the site and the community to death at the time, but it somehow slowly faded away. Not sure how or why.

Looking back at it, it may have been better to focus it purely on TS instead of trying to cover all 3 Tiberium games. But hey, we're not in the RA universe... so there's no changing the past Wink

TibWeb lives in death?

The C&C fan is a dying breed, it seems. Almost forgot of that old time of TumSun. Ah, the memories. It was what, 10 years ago, that I registered and started posting there. I had visited the site and known about it since 2001 or 2002, I believe.

As bad as it sounds, I don't see any C&C site lasting much longer if the next C&C game doesn't have modding, mapping or isn't really any good. If it flops, I fear this community (or what's left of it, anyway) may fall completely.

The doomsday is upon us.

Seriously though, it's not happening. Sites will remain, even if next C&C is a failure, even if it's never released. The community isn't only about new Command & Conquer games. We did fine for few good years after Zero Hour, we'll do fine this time.

I hope. I certainly like your enthusiasm! Now let's spread it around a little. #Tongue

I think the main thing that keeps the older cnc games alive (especially TS/RA2) is the ease of modding and the modding community.

I have seen other games like this which live long lives due to the modding scene.

Look at Half life 1/2 or Civilization 4 (released 2004 and more popular and moddable than Civ5 which was released 2010)

I think mods and modding communities play a huge part of a games longevity and this is something most cnc games seem to have.

Who knows what the future holds, but i can say that still after over 10 years since release it still amazes me the new mods being made and worked on for the older cnc games and things like Ares have and are opening more and more doors so that things don't get stagnant.

However I do think the final call is whether there will be enough players playing mods for these older games, as opposed to people modding them?

I've never cared about playing the mods myself... I only cared about the creations and about making my own, in that area this forum and our beloved tibwed excelled, and if you need a reason to keep this site alive, you got one already, You won't be able to spam c&c inspired vehicles in anywhere else... (No ofense meant, I love the art that has been posted here so far)

And for that sole reason I'll see if there's anything left to learn here...

Today I'll return from a trip and, with The DvD's support (if possible), Tiberium Web will get back.

But why? Isn't this like giving CPR to a terminally ill patient?

I noticed i forgot to copy/secure several files, so it would be nice to have it at least accessible with a read-only permission.

Also many old tutorials and topics still have links to tibweb and in many cases these actually give sense to the topic. In December we only copied some of the more valuable tibweb topics to ppm, but haven't edited and fixed every single ppm topic which has references to tibweb.
