Feels a little overkill on the dirt LAT, but that may be because I'm used to TD maps being much more plain.

Yeah, we don't have a lot of maps using different LATs this much. However it increases the amount of variety in the maps, and the new LATs fit the TD style so well it doesn't make it look too different compared to TD, at least in my opinion (although I have to confess that I'm only a few months older than TD, so I might be more open-minded than people who actually played TD in the 90s )
