I carryed out a test, i imported a image into each and recorded the results below (in the image...)

Palette:
Unittem.pal (RA2)

PSP Methods
Top: Nearest Colour Matching
Bottom: Error Diffusion Dithering

BS SHP Builder
Top: R+B+G Full Difference
Bottom: R+B+G Difference

XCC:
Some defult thing, couldn't find any other methods/algarithms

Winner:

BS SHP Editor with R+B+G Difference.

This test has only been done on one image so far, tho the results look promising!

Wow! R+G+B Difference wins Smile. Btw, Stu, I have removed the div 4 * 4 from my R+G+B Difference and also R+G+B Full Difference was renamed to 3D RGB Full Difference.

Correct me if I'm wrong but we'd never really deal with images like that unless it was for a cameo. I have to admit that the BS SHP Builder pics look best though.

We also deal with huge and high detailed pictures if we render with programs like 3dsmax or GMAX....

True the images in normal SHP's have less colours and are normaly close to the palette colours, but when testing you want to see how far soemthing can go, if you can "convert" a image with millions of colours down to 256 with not much noticable difference or editing needed and it had loads of colours then its great.

The better an Algarithm deals with "real life" images the better they will deal with simpler images.

I don't understand why anyone would want to use Error Diffusion Dithering because it almost always comes out looking pixelated like that.

I can't see much difference between the other four though, maybe it's this low quality monitor. :/

So doing your testing with pics of babes is how you're staying motivated? Wink

The difference between the top 3 isn't noticable, the diffeence between the BS SHP Builder's bottom one n the rest is noticable.(look at the amount of yellow that is on her)
