What version of Ares are you using?
Is Yuri's Revenge patched to v1.001?
Have you installed the Microsoft runtime files?
Is the gamemd.exe file using compatibility mode?

1. 0.3RC1, the default one.
2. yes, through origin.
3. yes the ones that were provided in the readme.
4. yes windows vista (service pack 2)

Also when the .bat file is run the it opens that window and then closes instantly but when I run YR the radar thing on the left side of the main menu is still there but the d-day menu on the right side is present. in addition when I go to skirmish all the maps say that there is a GUI missing and the game proceeds to crash if a try to play a skirmish once the loading bar is full. And thank you for your assistance in this matter.

What anti-virus program are you using? Some of them block Ares due to the way it hacks the game to add new features. Try adding gamemd.exe & Syringe.exe to the program's exception list.
