Subject description: screenshots filename not updated fast enough
Reply with quote

I just tried to create a gif of a unit ingame.
For that i rapidly pressed ctrl+p to create the necessary screenshots. In the original c&c's, this would have created a screenshot on every frame.

However for OpenRA this doesn't work.
OpenRA creates the screenshots, but the auto-generated filename is only updated every second. Thus when you try to create a lot of screenshots in under a second, they all overwrite each other, since the filename isn't changing fast enough.

Is there a way to generate screenshots (or a short Video) on a single frame basis?

oh, thanks.

It might be also good to make sure the screenshot function is then restricted to max 1 call per frame.
In the classic c&c's you could keep pressing ctrl+c very fast and create even multiple screenshots for one and the same frame. Which is creating redundant duplicate images and also creates a horrible amount of lag.

You cannot duplicate a frame with spamming Ctrl-P already - see https://github.com/OpenRA/OpenRA/blob/bleed/OpenRA.Game/Game.cs#L582 -, so that frame limiting is there.

However, it applies to render frames and not tick frames (former is your visual FPS which defaults to 60, changed via the frame limiter in graphics settings, latter is world FPS, which is what we call FPS in the C&C games and changed via game speed), because in OpenRA, rendering isn't linked to world states (like in any modern engine).
