Hello, I am happy to announce a new mod "Edge Of War" which is currently hosted on Moddb, this mod is considered small in size and fun to play, while it uses Toveena's A.I. for a harder and more challenging single player battles.

You should stick to a single project instead of randomly announcing new ones just to feel important. Also, this is just a thread of images of other peoples released content and in no way shows what the intended mod is even about. Please read the rules of this part of the forum next time, as this is currently a pointless post.

I agree, there is no such story you have given, nor even thinking if people would like it, there is no base for the mod itself to be done without creativity, you're simply just mashing up Public Assets and not making your own for the mod itself.

VERY WIP OF THE STORY!
World War 3 ended with the victory of allied and capturing of yuri and the retreat of the destructive soviet force, the peace rose all around the world allied economies were dominating and the soviet union started to move to the edge as people started to revolt all around the soviet union due to the bad economy Soviets sent a squad of spetsnaz to destroy key allied oilfields in the middle east which will weaken allied and lead to the rise of the soviet empire, allied forces in antarctica engaged with the soviet forces while a small squad of eplis troopers freed Yuri from his cold prison and started the end of the world.

Yeah, maybe I went a little bit too overboard, first of all, yes you're correct, a mod can be started for fun, but in the end, when the Mod Author gets bored of just doing silly things and experiments, they are bound to create a storyline so that their mod can have a goal, usually, mods get announced when the M.A. gets hold of a storyline, basically, the story is what makes the mod more interesting...

Oh, and temp/zlixine, you need to focus on one mod, JUST ONE MOD, don't keep creating seperate mods, for Christ sake, Black Alert isn't even damned finished yet and now this?!

Black Alert has been discontinued...

I actually accidentally corrupted the black alert mixes file, as an experiment for a more secure mix protector (I actually made a backup copy but it seems it wasn't copied correctly).

And THAT is why A) you do NOT protect MIXs from opening in any way or form in the first place, and B) keep the INIs OUTside, in the game-folder, for easier debugging/testing.

I mean, you edit the INIs BEFORE you put 'em in a MIX, right?

Imma let you finish but this story so far is nothing that hasn't been seen 1000x. Try a different theme or I don't think anyone will give a crap about a 'just another Soviets in power, Yuri escapes from prison, ztype allies' storyline. Same storyline has been around since 2005, just sayin'.

The voxels are nice, but the story is very bad, yes. Even ignoring the disastrous English, it just makes no sense. A squad of Spetsnaz is sent out to destroy oil platforms, and this somehow causes the Allies to weaken so very much? What would happen if, today, in our world, Russians destroyed an oil platform belonging to the USA? That is grounds for war.

Maybe they were terrorist attacks though, funded by the Russians, or maybe the Spetsnaz did indeed attack but made it appear as if they were terrorists. That is still 'easily' traceable; we know generally who funds which terrorists even today, and the world of Red Alert 2 is far more polarised (i.e. there are far fewer actors that could fund these terrorists, so it is even more obvious that it would be Russia).

In the far more militarised world of Red Alert 2, the moment Russia (which is already weak) tries this, at the very minimum, the entire country is embargoed and alienated. In all likeliness, Moscow gets occupied. But somehow, in your story, these attacks go on, and cause Russia to grow strong - how? How does Russia gain strength from these attacks?

And then we are fighting in Antarctica? What is there to do in Antarctica? How does Russia even get there - it is almost as far away from Russia as can be (have a random map)? Russia's main strategy would be something like 1) smash through mainland Europe to avoid a two-front war and to perhaps knock the Allies out of the war entirely 2) protect the east coast, but if push comes to shove, sacrifice the useless land in favour of conquering Europe and protecting the industrialised west 3) keep Central-Asia and the Middle-East friendly, and more importantly, keep China friendly.

Though of course, in real life, it would be nuclear armageddon.

I do agree on the point that the story will provide a solid foundation for a game, but I don't think forcing to create a storyline first should be the main goal for the foundation. I prefer the author to work at his own pace. The story should be first and foremost, that is if you want to make a perfect mod, or else you will find yourself lacking the foundation to link through the units created. However, what is to say that you cannot take a bunch of units and create a story with them yourself? A lot of other mods, such as RA3 Epic War, Generals Mod 2.5 and Apocalypse Mod outshine with their fun and crazy gameplay before "Project Perfect" became the trend for community nowdays.

I'm not sure how are you guys with his situation and sorry for the rudeness of double quoting, but I do have to mention the point that even a lot of Zero Hour mods such as Generation X, were not finished. The author worked on many other mods and even have the unfinished mods combined into 1. There are a lot of alternatives you could do with an unfinished mod, such as honing your modding skills and use them for a better mod. Plus, Zlixine just updated the mod 2 times within 1-2 weeks. I think it would be okay even if the mod doesn't get finished, given that Zlixine is satisfied with the results.

Few YR modders analyze the in-universe politics of their stories carefully. A well-written story with no obvious logic flaws could be a nice addition to a mod, but it's never mandatory, because there won't be many people caring about it in the first place.

The problem is that he doesn't care about quality, and is just using public assets to make yet another uncreative mod, and it's likely to be of inferior quality, just like his previous one.

Oh, I agree; a mod with unique rules (kenosis) or unique graphical assets beats a mod with a unique story any day of the week, unless this mod comes with an awesome campaign. Which often isn't the case.

I wouldn't say there is anything wrong with using public assets - their entire reason of existence is to be used - but we all know the 'throw 300 new units into a mod'-mods. That isn't the case for this mod, though, as far as I can see. But we don't really know anything, as this topic only contains pictures of single units, without any description or information.

But as I liked the voxels well enough, and had no criticism to give there, I offered my criticism to the story. Smile

It's abit unfair to come in and say this is pointless. Modding is for your own fun, so if he's enjoying himself then mission accomplished.

That said I think gameplay is what's important so waiting to see what this mod brings before really commenting on it. I would consider spreading out the images a bit so you don't create mile long posts, maybe using spoiler tags.
