Civilians in original RA had hardcoded to use just 2 sprite and some palette tricks to get different colors for 10 different civilians. I have recreated those colors as seperate .shp files for RA Classic mod for OpenRA. I decided to share those if anyone wants to get them at anywhere except original RA.

why was it necessary to recreate them, when tiberian dawn has all 10 of them as separate SHPs

1-) I wasn't aware TD has them.

2-) TD only has lores infantry sprites, while RA has bigger ones and OpenRA's RA mod uses those big ones, we can't simply use TD infantry artwork on RA.

afaik the assets are the same, there is no lores or hires.
Only the icons/cameos are different for lores and hires mode.

RA1 has exactly the same sprite size as TD and in many cases exactly the same sprites.
The image in the first post is showing the infantry in the same size as in TD. No higher res here.


Can you show a hires mammoth tank in comparison to a lores one?

RA95 had lousy upsized infantry. Lores is used for the DOS (TD-sized) infantry along with the DOS cameos while hires contains the choppy resizes.

Are these only for special SVGA versions of RA1? I don't think i've seen such big pixelated infantry when i played RA1 decades ago.

If you mean the Windows versions as SVGA, then yes. The DOS executable loaded TD sized infantry, the Win95 executable loaded choppy resized infantry.

the windows version always crashed for me, why i only played DOS RA.
