I've been working on a pair of 3x1 gates (paint.net is such an improvement over paint), but I was wondering if anyone had any advice, especially relating to how I should go about texturing them (they're supposed to be... I'm torn between metallic and concrete):

Keep them this way and create all other assets in a similar painted style.
It would be much more unique and interesting style than trying to create the umpteenth version of the same asset in a pseudo realistic way.

I'm not sure but i doubt paint.net allows the correct lighting, bumpmap, reflection, glossiness, diffuse noise map and other settings necessary to create a good looking concrete/metal texture.
