How do you edit a skinned mesh?

Depends on what type of mesh, what type of skin & what modeling program you are using...

Once you modify/add/remove a vertex you are messing with the objects UV coordinates which will mess up the texture/material.

If you modify/add/remove a vertex you could simply correct the corrispoint UV coordinates, may also have to edit texture/material if needed.

It's one single humanoid mesh. I was trying to modify one of his arm to a robotic arm by extruding some new polys and changing textures. Other parts stay the same.
