Turn a cannon firing sound into laser firing sound

Given the firing sound of Grizzly Tank, is it possible to modify it by digital ways (frequency, filtering, etc.) so that it sounds like a laser shot and how?

The Nero WaveEditor, available free at their site, should be able to accomplish the task.

However, I don't think you can get the perfect laser sound using the cannon firing sound, but I'd love it if you'd prove me wrong.

I'm thinking about a laser Grizzly as a variant of Grizzly which sounds like a Grizzly but laser-ish.
