Rhino Tank [RA2]
During the RA2 installation you get shown all these 3d models of the Tesla Tank, MCV and so on. There's this one tank that's labelled as Allied, but from what I can tell it's actually the Rhino model... it matches up exactly to the Rhino sidebar icon. Anyway, for some reason the ingame voxel isn't based on this model (and I always hated the way that voxel looks), so I had a shot at making the Rhino from the installation screen.
It's not textured very well, but the normals make it look ok ingame. The problem is, it's too small. I don't understand why since I used the old voxel as a base so that it would be the same size. I tried messing around with the scale value, but I don't really understand it and it didn't seem to have an effect anyway. If anyone can help with the size I'd appreciate it.
At your suggestion, I've resized the voxel. I also fixed up a few of the normals, colours and alignments of the unit. I hope that's okay?
Yeah, it's fine and thanks for your help. Could you explain how you resized the ingame image? I couldn't be bothered to fiddle with the turret offset since where I wanted it was so close to the centre of the HVA... I didn't think anyone would be able to tell that the rotation of the turret was slightly off. It looks better with the smoothed normals though. Also, I smiled when I noticed that you bothered to recolour the machine gun's ammo feed.
If anyone wants it then feel free to use it in your mod. Just credit me and Major_Gilbear. QUICK_EDIT
Well, if you look at the scales in the Voxel header, and then compare them to the values for the voxel size itself, you should be able to figure it out.
I redid the HVAs too as the turret and barrel are scaled into place (using the hull for reference). This is how WW did it, and it is much better than using the HVA IMO. QUICK_EDIT

Err... No way. T-34 is totally different. Its hull is stretched forward and turret is different. Type T-34 in google for pics.
Actually there were 2 T34s - first one - a WWII russian medium tank and second was T34 Calliope - WWII American MLRS (actually a rocket pad mounted on a Sherman) _________________ in 2009 to Florence. Viva Italia! QUICK_EDIT

Well, I've seen a T-34 (Russian) that was very alike this one. The turret was a bit different though, but I'm sure this concept made by Westwood is based upon that tank design.
Anyway, I'm not a specialist in this matter, and it may very well be that those differences I think are irrelevant make T-34 and Classic Rhino completely different.

Although not the same, they are very much alike, to my point. But you may have a different look upon the matter...

Those "barrels" are fuel tanks. Shoot one, well, umm, bye, bye tank...
Shooting one would make a big explosion, which would set off a chain reaction of the other three fuel tanks, which would both annnahilate the back of the tank and would set off other, internal explosions, which would reduce the tank to a pile of scrap in about a minute. _________________ "Banned" RP here QUICK_EDIT

In Hollywood, yes. In real life, no. Go and do some more reading about engines, fuels and auxilliary external fuel tanks, and you'll see why. Incidentally, the British Challengers also use such fuel tanks (mounted at the back), just like most Soviet tanks do.
The RA2 Rhino is in no way related to the T-34 either. That is like saying that the Grizzly is in fact based on the Pershing - IOW, complete bollocks. I suggest finding some line drawings of the T-34 and comparing them to the renders of the Rhino if you *really* cannot see the difference, as that will make it very obvious. QUICK_EDIT

Personally I don't the concept of this Rhino Tank, it looks slightly flimsy, like a slightly souped up version of the Grizzly. The other Westwood version looks like it is ready to take a pummeling, standing in greater odds with really big armour- hence Rhino "Heavy" Tank. This Rhino tank looks like it's just an equivalant to the Allied Grizzly- it needs to surpass it. It also looks like it could go fast: something which the Soviets shouldn't have (Allies are more mobile army).
The voxel is very good yes, but practicality in my opinion for the Soviet side, no. _________________ QUICK_EDIT
Sorry to open this old thread, but I believe I know why the Rhino appears in the Allied installation screen. Perhaps it was going to be the Allied medium tank first (hence the one barrel and less powerfull armor), and there was going to be another heavy tank (perhaps even the twin-barrelled pre-release heavy tank?) for Soviets. However, WWLA scrabed the idea and decided to use the dummy grizzly for Allies and Rhino for the Soviets. _________________ QUICK_EDIT
